Gran Canaria -nicest parts?

We have booked Maspalomas.
A few friends are saying we have picked the wrong area and staying around Puerto Rico would have been the best option.
We are unsure and thinking of changing
Also my playa del Ingles has been recommended
We don't do nightclubs - I like nice food and cocktails
Something nice by the beach -a boat trip and also maybe a market.
Any recommendations ?

Yes the Tabaiba side is near the adults section. We didn’t upgrade our drinks package as honestly I don’t think it was worth the extra €12 pppn. The drinks were ok, nothing amazing. If we did fancy something branded it was only €3. Coffee at the piano bar is good (better than the restaurant) and we paid for freshly squeezed juice each morning for a few euros - still less than the cost of the upgrade.
Also, they do have a lovely spa which is worth a visit if that’s your thing.

@FeeTie the drink upgrade do you pay per day ? Or for the whole week
As I wouldn't mind 1 day but wouldn't fancy paying for the full week
