Hi can anyone give me some recommendations please? I have always wanted to go to a German Christmas market. Which ones are good or would you recommend? TIA

Not done a German one but our son lived in Prague, the Czechs know how to do Christmas!
The markets are fabulous and flight and accommodation are cheap.

Any recommendations to where in Prague?

Prague is a small City and easy to navigate.
The main market is in Old Town square and One in Wenceslaus Square.
If you go try and get onto the roof terrace at the Prince U hotel, the views are superb and it’s opposite the Astronomical Clock, try and get there for a late strike 9/10pm.

Here’s a link.

Ds and I went to the Dusseldorf one which was lovely, and very easy to get there as well. Not too frantic either

Cologne is one of the best!

SatinHeart · 25/09/2022 19:48

Munich has lots of little ones dotted around the city

Hoppinggreen · 25/09/2022 19:49

I’ve been to Freiburg a few times , Koln and Nuremberg. We are going to Munich this year

Thank you for all the suggestion. I will do some research & see which one looks the best. Can’t wait 🎄

Another vote for Munich here! Love that place.

We booked a package which took us round Germany to various markets. The tour itself was terrible but some of the markets in the smaller villages were amazing but didn't seem to be permanent, more of a short event which people travelled to.

If you can find a tour see where they stop.

Cologne (Köln) is marvellous and magical, with several smaller markets clustered around the central one. We went a few years ago by train, which was really easy - Eurostar all the way to Brussels-Midi, and change for a direct train to Cologne. It was a super trip and one I’m anxious to repeat as soon as possible!

Plenty in Munich, different parts of the city sell different items, but of course you still get some Chinese tat thats sold as kind of local IYKWIM, and I think some of the prices are way over the top (have been to many markets all over Europe this is not just in Munich/Germany) but the food/drink and the atmosphere make up for it!

I thought some German towns and cities are planning on reducing energy consumption by eg putting the lights out early and so on? Might be worth looking into, @Hoppinggreen before you book!

Sorry wrong tag! Meant to tag @Whattodonow6322!

Aachen! Also easy by train or car as it’s just by the Belgian and Dutch borders. There’s a fabulous spa there as well to warm up in.

Correct and worth checking

Munich was lovely and it snowed and was very fairy-taley. I've heard Cologne is great, my DSis went one year.

Thank you 😊
