Not have done Disney

My 7 year old gave away all her dressing up princess dresses today and all I can think about is how I have missed the magic of seeing my little girl look up at the princesses at Disney. I always said to my husband that I wanted to take her to Paris when she was little but he kept saying no and that we would wait until they are older and take them to America instead and so now I feel both annoyed at myself for going along with him and resentful towards him that we haven't taken her in the young ages because he said not to. We will go to Disney in America but not until she is maybe 10. Can anyone reassure me that there still will be magic? I think this has maybe just been a realisation that she's growing up and what have I missed!

I enjoyed Disneyland Paris when I was 25 more than I enjoyed Disney World when I was 11. Grin
By the time your dd is 10 she might be really into Pixar or Marvel so will still find it magical.

bluetongue · 22/09/2022 08:54

She’ll be fine. I didn’t even travel to another country until I was in my 20’s and I still speak to my parents 😁

I have taken my kids once to DLP.

Would love to take them back and I had considered going to Florida in 2020 (so glad we didn't even book it). Had thought about it next year but prices are ridiculous.

I'm not sure if we will go to Disney again. I can't see prices coming down to an amount I am prepared to pay (it's not that I can't afford it per se, just not prepared to pay it).

So we will go lots of super holidays elsewhere hopefully.

We took our children to Kenya, Peru, USA, Caribbean islands and even the Galápagos Islands. They didn’t get introduced to Disney. They saw lots more of the world and are happy about it. They didn’t miss out.

Sausagenbacon · 24/09/2022 06:26

I don't get all this love for Disney. It's OK, but magical? No.
We took our once when they were young but they never mention it as a favourite holiday. Their favourite was a week on a narrow boat in Cheshire.

whiteroseredrose · 24/09/2022 06:42

We went to Disney Paris when DD was about 5 and DS was 8.

It was a nice day out but not 'magical'.

RoachTheHorse · 24/09/2022 06:46

Disney parks are amazing full stop. Anytime you go will be fine. I went at 16 and still wasn't too cool to find it amazing!

liveforsummer · 24/09/2022 06:54

Kids young enough to do what you describe likely won't remember a thing about it so don't think you've missed out on something huge. Disney can be magical for all ages, I know childless adults who go every year. Most 10 year olds will still get swept up in the atmosphere and even if they don't there is a lot more open to them at that age and they'll actually remember the experience.

TizerorFizz · 24/09/2022 14:07

It’s not magic. It’s marketing.

TwinkleChristmas · 25/09/2022 13:17

10 is a great age for Disneyworld. I took my 10 & 8 year old this year.

I also took them to Disneyland Paris twice before that though and every trip has been great.

we are planning Disneyworld again for 2025.

Paigeycakey · 25/09/2022 17:35

Can you squeeze Paris in? I think you can do DLP at any age.... 7 is better than 4. The show is late at night DS missed it. There's lots of walking and queuing too I wouldn't recommend a child being too young. At 7+ your DD will know more of what's going on.

TizerorFizz · 26/09/2022 13:42

@Paigeycakey
They get a lot more out of just visiting Paris! Not so much at 4. 7 definitely. Why is Disney remotely important? We hardly know anyone who’s been? My DC never even asked to go. However I didn’t dress them up as any Disney character. We liked some of the cartoons and films but left it at that. I don’t see being a Disney Princess as a role model for DDs. I know Disney have belatedly discovered girl power but it’s very late.

Frazzled2207 · 26/09/2022 13:45

I was taken age 11 and it was the best thing ever. Able to go on ALL the rides etc.

i used to want to take mine at a similar age however with the combination of expense, shit exchange rate and queues (not nearly as bad in the 90s) I suspect we won’t bother.

Did you misundestand my post?

I said 7+. For me personally me and my brother never went so as an adult I'm glad I had the opportunity to do so with my own Son. Absolutely your not restricted to DLP solely. I wouldn't do it again as its not cheap and we don't and never have ever had Disney channels at home but I guess it depends what your DC is into. DS didn't know some things when he was 4.... but covide hit a year or so after so glad we got to go. Its pricey though.... and the food eurghhh but we did 4 nights. I think it is worth doing the once if you have the budget but if its going to be your only holiday for a couple of years then perhaps not!

TizerorFizz · 26/09/2022 16:28

No. I didn’t misunderstand your post. I just added my views on why girls might want to be steered away from Disney/princess. I’m sorry if that was not to your liking.

I am actually confused. There's nothing to add on to my post regarding girls. I have one Son only. Just because you don't know anybody who goes to DLP doesn't mean really mean anything. I think you definitely have got the wrong end of the stick your tone is shitty for no reason. Lmao.... I actually wrote originally that older kids would get more out of it. I'm not sure what F your talking about or why you felt the need to add to my post 😆 it doesn't make sense I don't even have a DD. But whatever 🙄

TizerorFizz · 26/09/2022 19:05

It was a separate train of thought! Nothing to do with your circumstance. It should have been a separate paragraph! Ok?

Paigeycakey · 26/09/2022 21:01

@TizerorFizz OK....

Needmorelego · 26/09/2022 21:33

@pancakes222 sounds more like you are the one who wants to do Disney rather than your children. Rather than worry about the 'right' age to take them why not turn it into a special trip for you (40th birthday or something).
If the children aren't that bothered/interested in going I wouldn't spend the £1000s it costs.

Calandor · 26/09/2022 21:51

Disney is still amazing at 10. Hell I went this year aged 27 and it was still magic! At 10 she can enjoy the bigger rides too and get stuck into Avengers Campus and Galaxys Edge.
