New York...then where? In August with teens

Hi all

So next summer we'd love to spend 4 nights in New York, then travel somewhere for 10 nights relaxing around a pool and on the beach in the sun. Any recommendations on where would be best?

I keep looking at Miami, but will that be too hot!? Looking for somewhere with a beautiful beach front location, but somewhere which the teenage dd's will also enjoy, and plenty of choice of family friendly (not too fancy!) restaurants close by?

Looking to stay on the east coast of the USA ideally, as want to save California/San Francisco etc for it's own big trip one day :)

I’m normally terrible in the heat, but I found NYC in august to be fine - spent most of the time in Brooklyn where it’s a bit airier, and the air con was much better than London!

I would then absolutely head to Long Island/the Hamptons - I stayed in Sag Harbor, which was beautiful, and went to a couple of different places on the island.

What about a 7 day round trip cruise to Bermuda....we did Boston & cruise but it also departed from New York?

We went to North Fork of Long Island for a few days after NY in August a few years ago. Stayed near Greenport, in some condos right on the beach, the place had a pool. We loved how relaxed it was after NY. We had much younger kids though and 10 nights would have been too long really with not enough to do. But maybe 5 nights North Fork and 5 night Hamptons could work? You would most likely need a car though, but no extra flights.

We did NYC in July last year and then did a separate week to a Corfu villa in August as couldn’t find anywhere suitable for the after

cape cod or the jersey coast or go down to hilton head

Are you any closer to deciding, OP? We are also thinking for this August, NYC then maybe San Francisco. The flights look £££ 👀

Someone recommended to us Chicago, Douglas, and going west for the beaches by the lakes. (This was last evening and I haven’t looked at a map yet.) I remembered this thread had a mention.
