We've just had an email - nothing through the post. Is that right? Do we just print it/have it available on a phone? It's for my daughter.
Many thanks in advance

I don’t think I ever shown a visa. They know whether you have got one or not when you turn up.

@tactum hi & apologies for joining your thread with a question. I was wondering if your dd was travelling to Australia on a WHV to do the usual work/travel trip and if so I wondered how she had found getting jobs? My dd is applying currently for her visa but I keep reading about how difficult it is to get jobs as there’s lots of competition and a reluctance to employ short term workers. If she went on a similar trip how did she find everything & did she go through Bunac/similar or just independently? Thank you 😊

Hi blueskiesrule, sorry I didn't see your post. I can't offer much help unfortunately - DD went to play a sport at a specific club in a big city for the summer, and they had sorted a few job opportunities for her to help her along the way - very lucky I know. Sorry! She has had the absolute best time!

Thanks for the update @tactum & glad she had a great trip, it sounds fantastic. We’ll continue the research…..😊

@blueskiesrule I would say finding work will be easy, the hospitality industry is desperately short of staff as the working holiday makers are just trickling back and immigration have just reduced the number of hours international students can work - they had upped it post COVID. The problem will be accommodation. There is a shortage of accommodation pretty much everywhere here at the moment, definitely all the major cities (we are in Sydney) and places like Byron Bay and other pretty seaside places where backpackers traditionally ended up just don’t have enough affordable accommodation. Any job that comes with accommodation included, like some hotels, might be worth going for. Does she have any idea where she would like to be?

blueskiesrule · 24/07/2023 10:32

@PeanutButterOnToad Thanks so much for that. She’s not sure as yet. She was thinking of going for the Bunac intern plus working holiday option (which helps you set up a 20 hour max unpaid internship) & as she’s more in the creative field had identified Melbourne might be the place for that. But I’m aware that will limit her earning & travel time (& given accommodation costs might not be viable unless it’s valuable experience).

I guess I’m trying to help/stop worrying/maybe control things a little 😂by trying to get as much information as possible beforehand, but I know she’ll have to figure it out herself. She has a good range of hospitality/promo/packing experience but it still feels very scary as she’ll be going on her own.
