NY trip

heading to New York for five days in just under three weeks- it's the first time in ages that we've had a big holiday (usually camping trips in the summer - so this is quite the change)
so just want to check we're not missing anything...
flights and hotel are booked, with seats booked on plane
we've all got passports and we've got Estas. DH and I have Covid app on our phones showing vaccination status, got the NHS document for DD (11) showing she's double vaxxed

anything else we need to sort paperwork wise - travel never used to feel this complicated!
and any suggestions for places/things to do...

@allfurcoatnoknickers

We will be there just before Christmas 17th -22nd Dec - is it really cold ? What are the chance of snow ? Sorry maybe daft questions but I'm so excited 😊. Great advice and tips

@bert3400
Yes if will be cold. Take duvet coats, warm hats and gloves. Might not snow but cold wind is highly likely.

allfurcoatnoknickers · 21/09/2022 15:21

@bert3400 It will be chilly - temp will lively hover just above freezing. The real bitter cold and snow tends to come in February, but you'll definitely need a puffy coat and at the very least warm boots or socks, hat, scarf, gloves etc. Wear layers though because it will be absolutely roasting inside.

If you don't have a puffy coat, I've found that Zara make the best ones on the High Street.

Thank you @allfurcoatnoknickers & @TizerorFizz . Have a super warm coat but may invest in some super comfortable warm boots . Thank you for the tips 😊

Just watch inflation soar again in the uk due to very expensive imports. We are in USA right now and you do notice the prices. We started going to USA when it was $2 to £1 and $1.80 at worst. Now!!! Nothing seems good value but you just have to pay up!

Are there any favourite film TV locations you want to see? We had breakfast near the Friends apartment and also went to the pub McLaren’s in How I Met Your Mother was based on. And the steps of the Met like in Gossip Girl! And the boating lake from Stuart Little.

Grand Central Station is impressive and worth popping in to.

Agree - walk over the Brooklyn Bridge and walk the Highline.

Viewing platforms - I love a view. Feels like the Empire State Building is a must but the trouble is that if you go up it it isn’t in the view! We ended up doing Top of the Rock as well. Other high view option is the new One World Trade Centre.

We hired bikes in Central Park.

The guidebook said a couple of hours for the 9/11 memorial at a leisurely pace, I found needed much longer than that.

Get a Cronut from the Dominique Ansel bakery.

Swing by Wall Street to see all the trading figures and people watch.
