Problems using BA covid credits with Expedia?

Anyone else trying to redeem BA flight vouchers with Expedia?

Just interested if anyone has been successful without having to pay thousands more? Literally, they have just quoted me a fare 200% more than that shown on any other website for the exact same flight but apparently that’s the only way I can use my credit. It’s over £400 cheaper to buy whole new tickets direct from BA than use my credits.

I am at the point where I think I am going to have to try legal action.

If it genuinely is exactly the same per BA terms and conditions the only possibility is BA price guarantee www.britishairways.com/en-gb/flights-and-holidays/flights/price-promise. I expect there will be quite a few criteria to meet and you will just get another voucher for the difference!

They literally have me over a barrel. New “rules” keep appearing as to why they can’t do this or that, including having to buy two one way tickets as opposed to a return as I have two credits to use. Unsurprisingly, one way tickets are a lot more expensive than returns.

On the BA T&Cs it says you can use credits for any sort of flight offered by them and up to four credits per booking. I want to make one booking and use two credits.

Honestly, they want to make me pay twice for the tickets - once with the credits and once again with new fees for the “price difference”. These are business class flights so thousands of pounds, not a couple of hundred.

As far as I was aware you could only use the vouchers direct with BA rather than through a third party, although I must admit I haven't checked. I've booked a partner airline through the BA website.

BookwormButNoTime · 11/09/2022 17:30

Nope, I booked the tickets through Expedia with the same T&Cs as if I had booked direct. Expedia have the credits from them and I can only book through them.

It’s borderline fraud. They want to charge me £2,700 more for the flights than I can get on any other website. It’s more than the cost of buying four whole new return trips!!!!!!

Maybe try enquiring with some of the money advisors or the consumer show on radio 4, usually on at midday (sorry can't remember the name) or Which. They might help you fight your corner.

The BA credits with Expedia is a scam. They don't actually hold any credits with BA as you would have booked directly with airline, they are trying to book new flights and claim money back from airline afterward. There is no proper system at their end to actually issue or use credits.

I tried to use my credits but couldn't. The agents are dishonest and will have you calling the airline yourself. One asked me to book new flights (no credits) and they will claim money back for me, they repeatedly say I need to wait up to 6 weeks when they contact airline. They use email address that you can't reply to. I DM on Twitter and case was referred to another team. They called and emailed but still nothing. My itinerary and credits disappeared from my account.

I couldn't claim money back through credit card as they say it happened too long ago. I gathered my evidence (emails from them, screenshot of my credits before it disappeared) and informed Expedia on their online complaint form that I am going to the Small Claims Court to get my money back. They emailed and said they couldn't find my itinerary at all, I emailed them back my evidence. They called and said they will contact the airline and up to 6 weeks wait, I said no, it has been too long I am going to court (I was going to go to court, it was not a threat). They said give them 72 hr to sort out, they called a couple hours later to say they will issue a full refund and an email to confirm.

Don't waste time talking to them and don't try to book flights with them using credits because there is none. Just ask for a refund, save all the emails (the ones when they say they have issued you credits or refunds) you get from them, screenshot your account details, write down the timeline of your dealing with them, phone records etc. Screenshot and write down the flights you find online and the price they quote you. Just inform them you are going to claim your money back through the court.

You have a right to demand a refund. I had BA vouchers from a cancelled flight in 2020 due to covid and just rang them up and asked for a refund instead.

Discovereads · 18/10/2022 09:19

I booked the tickets through Expedia

Ooops just noticed this. I had bought my tickets direct from BA and hey gave me a refund the second I asked for one. I don’t know how Expedia is though about giving refunds.

After 19.5 hours on the phone (spread over several days), I FINALLY managed to use my credits for BA flights I booked through Expedia.

They tried every trick in the book. Lying to me that my credits had expired, saying I could only use them for specific flights, saying flights were unavailable (when they were freely for sale on their website), problems with their computer system and their highlight - hanging up on you just when you think you’re getting somewhere.

If anyone else is having issues then ask for a case number. I was issued one on the day I gave them my solicitor details and asked for theirs. Unsurprisingly it was then all sorted out quite quickly - well if you call the final conversation with them lasting 2.75 hours quick.

I made them stay on the phone until I could see them under the “Manage my Booking” section on the BA website so I could ensure they had actually been booked.

Honestly, NEVER book through them. I saved myself £560 booking with them initially (for four return flights). The amount of stress and time it has created it just wasn’t worth it.

@BookwormButNoTime

Glad it is sorted for you now. It is horrendous dealing with them, they just try to fob you off any way they could. Looks like things only get sorted when solicitors and courts are mentioned.

Would never book with them again.

TizerorFizz · 18/10/2022 15:36

Just book BA direct! We have not had any issues and we had business flights we couldn’t take. Don’t use a middle man!

wydlondon · 18/10/2022 18:08

I normally buy direct from airlines, but the flights I booked were multi-cities and not available to book with BA direct, eventhough the whole trip was with OneWorld and whole booking was under BA. There were more flight choices on Expedia than on airline websites. Some airlines are not set up to sell direct and they give agents better prices and more flexibility.
