Thailand Flights

I have travelled a lot in Europe but really would like to go further afield to somewhere such as Thailand. I just don’t get the flights though despite googling. How do you decide on which airline and where to stopover? Will all flights for next year be released now or do some come up later? I’ve been looking at sky scanner and it’s much more expensive than I expected (at least £800 each), Is that normal?

I went recently business with Lufthansa.

We did our stopover in Germany purely because of layover times. You don’t want to be hanging around an airport for ages!

I think 800 is probably about average although you might get cheaper on sky scanner etc.

We want to go next December so following with interest

800 return is quite a normal price for a 12h+ flight, might be cheaper in off season and midweek, or more expensive the last weekend of July. Just like short haul flights.

Ideally you don’t want a long layover but you also want an airport that runs efficiently and is a hub for whatever airline you choose, in case there are any issues.

Choosing airlines is a very personal thing - some prefer certain alliances or are already signed up / members of a loyalty scheme. Food is better on some. Timings play an important part. But in all honesty, they’re all pretty much the same.

NEVER book though a third party. Always direct with the airline or partner airline, so make sure that the price you’re seeing on skyscanner is that of the airline provider, not the cheapest third party option they’re showing at the top.

Thank you - I think I’d been confused with people on other threads talking about cheaper flights.

I also saw talk of direct flights but they are not coming up on sky scanner. Is there a reason?

Actually scrap that, they are there but obviously more expensive

Direct flights will probably only go to/from one specific airport. So Heathrow to Bangkok for example, not Gatwick/Manchester etc.
If you go onto Skyscanner and choose your route you can then search for the whole month to see when the cheapest pricing is, it can make a big difference which day of the week you travel on.

@PaveBeads

Re the stopover/direct flights comment, UK-BKK isn't that big a stretch in Longhaul flight these days terms but nevertheless options are all a bit limited ATM from the UK probably for economic reasons/demand out of UK/restrictions on Heathrow passenger numbers.who knows...

BA used to do at least one non-stop a day, briefly two, but that seems to have been farmed out to Qatar Airways as a non-direct code-share with a change in the Gulf.

Ex-UK I think Thai are I think still operating a non-stop LHR-BKK.
