Holidays with older kids’ activities other than mark warner/neilson?

Has anyone had a holiday where there is group watersports lessons or similar activities available for older primary age kids, but that isn’t a Mark Warner or Neilson?

We are looking for something that will keep DC busy and where they can meet other kids. They have always loved kids clubs but are getting a bit old for them now as the other kids tend to be quite a bit younger.

Mark warner/Neilson would be an obvious option, but DH and I are not so keen on the AI nature of them. We tend not to enjoy big hotels and prefer to eat at local restaurants and self cater.

Does anyone know of a smaller, non AI place that offers similar lessons or group activities for older kids? It doesn’t have to be watersports, just something that is suited to an active 10 and 8 yr old.

I am looking at Simply Morzine mountain holidays, as they run group activities, but any other ideas very welcome.

thank you

Kids clubs at Yelloh! Village sites are divided into 5-7 year olds and 8-12 year olds, so your dc wouldn’t be the oldest in their group. Our favourite site is Les Grands Pins which is easily walkable from a lovely town. If they like football, there’s a campsite which has a football academy for children 7+ www.casavio.com/en/camping-activities/sport-and-fitness/football-school/

Thank you! I think we might find most campsites too big and busy and DH is very anti camping 🙄 but will have a look in case I can find a smaller quieter looking one.

Unfortunately I suspect there’s a bit of a conflict between wanting activities but not wanting to stay in a big hotel or complex…

You could self cater and just pay for additional activities on top. I'm thinking west coast of France Bordeaux - ish, surf school for each morning, cycling in the afternoons, forest likes, horse riding etc.

Otherwise do the AI for activities but suck up the cost of eating out locally. Probably a toss up in cost compared to paying for activities separately.

I wouldn't dismiss 'camping' if you go to a high spec mobile home on a smaller site.

Oh are there surf schools there that aren’t attached to big resorts? That could work!

Although would have to check if they have lessons in English!
