Tenerife in Feb half term

wonderstuff · 03/09/2022 15:17

Really want some winter sun this year, thinking about Tenerife. Never been before. Have DS12 and DD15. Thinking AI might be fun, but again never done that before, not ever enjoyed a package holiday, but last time we tried were super cheap deals before we had the kids.

Anyone with experience and advice?

Heated pool at the Anthelia is great but the rooms are rather cheaply done and small, you need to upgrade. Their breakfast buffet is lovely, dinner not so much.

I swim in the UK sea now in Sept, but found Tenerife sea in March FREEZING! Weather was cloudy and rained too on one day. i guess its down to luck.

If you want real 5 star Duque or Ritz.
Royal Hideaway is also great and stylish, as you get a full kitchen.
Second what Wanda said re Char and La Caleta. (Villa Maria is also worth a look).

We stated at the Vincci plantacion in Adeje on a BnB basis and the breakfast was amazing and kept us going until dinner. Really nice rooms and not too pricey (albeit at the beginning of december). One big pool was heated but we prefer the beach and were down there everyday swimming.

We like Puerto del Carmen in Lanzarote.

The Fariones is a lovely hotel although I've only been for lunch not to stay.

P del C is reliably the best weather you will get in Feb. I've been to Casta Adeje in feb though too and was also nice.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 04/09/2022 14:32

Are you tied to a particular airport, OP?

Butterdishtea · 04/09/2022 14:35

Realistically it will be cold.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 04/09/2022 14:38

I'm only asking because for the Gran Costa Adeje, for example, they DO have availability on Jet2 for Feb half term (if your half term is wb 13th FEb). So was wondering if you need a particular airport (as I didn't try searching for them all), or your half term is different to here.

I'm assuming you're searching for 2 rooms and not just 1 room to sleep 4 of you? On the Jet2 website the result will show Bed and Breakfast, but you change that to whichever type of board you want on the next page.

Madcats · 04/09/2022 15:26

We did a (for us) a cheap AI hotel with kitchenette in Costa Adeje about 5 years ago with DC, primarily because we had free entry into Siam Water Park. We really didn't spend much time there (beach and waterpark shuttle were close by). The hotel pools were cold and unremarkable.

It was cheap enough that we rented a car for 2 nights and went up north for the carnival overnight. The carnival was okay, but the highlight of the trip was probably a snowball fight up on Mount Tiede and back down to the beach that evening. AI food was good enough, but we also had a takeaway curry.

Thee is a lot for teens in Tenerife. The only difference I noticed weather wise is November was a tad cooler (better in my opinion) and the sun went down slightly earlier meaning the pools weren’t quite so warm. Took a cardi and never used it. I imagine February being the same. We are in the adults only Riu, but next door to the Rui Palace which looks lovely.

wonderstuff · 04/09/2022 17:31

We’re in Hampshire, Bristol to Tenerife suits us, any of the London airports or Southampton are doable too, Luton is a bit of a mission though. Depends on flight times really.

@CurlyhairedAssassin just read your second post, looking at11-18 Feb from Bristol with Jet2. Didn’t allow me to select it for that week, half-terms do vary though, got a good friend in Norfolk and they never have the same half terms as us.

The Costa Adeje Gran is available on that date from Bristol with Jet2. Confused Are you sure you're putting in what you need correctly (for whichever hotel you are looking at?) You'd need 2 rooms. Put 1 adult and 1 child in each room when you're inputting what you need. You don't need to stick to that. When you get there, the teens go in one room, you go in the other. I'm only saying this because I think I made the same mistake when I first tried to book a package. People on here told me to book like that, hotels expect it in a family of teens and aren't going to send someone to arrest you for switching it round when you get there. The hotels know - our room was set up as a double, and our teens's room was set up as 2 twins.

It isn't going to be cheap to go on a Saturday of a week's half term for exactly 7 days. Personally I'd juggle around with dates and/or flight times to see if you could knock a couple of hundred off.

Shiningstarr · 04/09/2022 18:49

We went to Gran Canaria in the Feb half term this year, not Tenerife, but still the Canary Islands.

Tbh I wouldn't go at that time of year again. It just wasn't warm enough. Pools freezing cold as they weren't heated (they needed to be). Not great.

We stayed at the Riu Vistamar, so a good 4* hotel, all inclusive etc. When the sun went behind a cloud it was chilly.

rookiemere · 04/09/2022 19:07

I know two sets of families that went to Tenerife this February, both said they had really good weather - mid to late twenties.

I mean some of it is down to luck. We went every October for a few years. Sometimes we had amazing weather, sometimes we had a couple of cooler days ( but then we were in the hills).

Roselilly36 · 04/09/2022 19:11

Great choice, we had a few hols in Lanzarote in Feb half term, always had lovely weather.

I agree PDC is our favourite resort, not been since Dec 2019, sadly

I was in Tenerife February this year and it was warm and sunny. I'm going again next February. We go to Los Gigantes.
I prefer Tenerife to Lanzarote , much more to do

Changed to 2 rooms, did come up on initial search but when I clicked through was no longer available, looks fully booked until 27/2. Will definitely bare in mind if we do another trip, looks lovely.

Is it really warm enough in Tenerife in February to use outdoor pools etc? Any time I see photos of Tenerife from friends it's mostly cloudy with only a day or two of sunshine! It is showing as 23 degrees (bbc weather app) at the moment there so I'd think Feb could be pretty cool?

As i posted below, we went to Gran Canaria in feb half term this year and it was too cold. Pools freezing, couldn't use them.

Tenerife is usually cloudy too which won't help

Arnaquer · 04/09/2022 21:19

We stayed in an apartment complex and used the pool every day

CherryGenoa · 04/09/2022 21:38

You may be unlucky with the weather at that time of year but if you pick a hotel with good facilities and things to do nearby it’s ok. Half board rather than AI is perfect with teens (and cheaper), ours loved the chance to try lots of different dishes in the buffet. Siam park is brilliant for teens too, just check it’s open first as we went in the summer.

Otherwise you could try Cape Verde for potentially more reliable sun? I have never been but others might be able to advise.

wonderstuff · 04/09/2022 22:07

We’ve booked! B&B at Hotel Baobab Suites for 5 nights. Pools are heated, 2 bed suite, looks gorgeous. Siam Park is open all year, also plan to go dolphin spotting and do time at one of the nature reserves. And eat lots of lovely meals out. Fingers crossed the weather will be lovely. Shall dream about it all winter. Thanks all.

Was just coming on to recommend there or GF Victoria but see you’ve booked. We have been twice in Feb and had a fab time and lovely weather , and also heading to Boabab next Feb. For your dolphin trip highly recommend whale watch Tenerife rather than one of the big boats, the guys who run it are fantastic and really know their stuff about marine biology. Have a great time and fingers crossed we get good weather ! For restaurants El Makami and Orange Cafe preferably at sunset, both pretty simple but really lovely 👌🏻
