Holiday in France arriving easter sunday - food and shopping??

Hi everyone

We're flying to France for a big family holiday at Easter. DH, ds and I arrive first so it's falling to us to sort out some provisions.

Problem is, we arrive Easter Sunday.

Will anything be open? We're flying into Bordeaux and then driving to Entre Duex Mer to a little village called Neuffons. If anyone has any knowledge of this area or can reassure me we'll be able to find food to feed 6 adults and 2 toddlers I'd be most grateful.

Easter Monday is a holiday and I'm terrified all the lovely local shops will be shut - eek!

Well you need some local knowledge to confirm but I'd say, that unless your flight is an early one, you are going to find nothing open until the Tuesday
I hope I can be proved wrong but IME you will get maybe one local rural Super-U type place open until lunchtime on a Sunday...and then nothing.
And they do seem to take their bank holidays more seriously than we do. Hopefully there will be some kind of big hypermarket on the road away from the airport...?

Shops will deffo be shut on any sunday after 12, even the big hypermarche, let alone the easter sunday

fairyflipflop · 22/01/2008 12:54

From searching the internet that is what I feared .

Anyone know of any hypermarkets in the area?

Flight arrives 9am so have all day to shop (in theory)

Can see my dreams of lovely French produce bought from quaint market stalls being postponed until the Tuesday...[sigh]

You could try posting in living overseas. There is a mumsnetter who lives near Bordeaux who might be able to help.

For hypermarket opening times try their websites and enter in the postcode of where you are going for opening hours of nearest branch

looks hopeful

Which biggish town is it near? Your best bet would be to find a restaurant open there to have a meal. They have a chain called 'Buffalo' and Courtepaille which are normally open all week. There are some restaurants around Bordeaux airport that are ok-ish. Service stations on the toll motorways have large-ish shops where you can buy bread, milk etc.

Most towns will have a patisserie open everyday of the year to buy bread, pastries, tartes but not much else.

The Hypermarkets will probably closed, although there is an Auchan near to the airport. You could look on the net to see opening times.

Many shops will be open until 1pm on Sunday, especially the local shops and street markets.

Then closed until Tuesday morning.

Have followed your suggestion Othersideofthechannel - thank you

Enid - thanks for the link, very useful

mimizan - if we have to survive on bread and pastries for 2 days then so be it cannot think of a better way to start the holiday. Yum! Will look up the Auchan and see if it will be open.

Thanks!

I think that you may have problems finding a supermarket open. I live about an hour away from where you'll be staying and there would be nothing here.

Where are you staying? If you are renting somewhere you could ask the owners to do a basic provision pack for you and send them a shopping list. They will also be the best people to ask re food shopping facilities at Easter.

As you arrive early you could go into Bordeaux centre to one of the food markets there or head straight to Langon market and hope that it has what you need.
