How would you get from Portugal to Bali and back (6 weeks or so)?

Are there any clued-up travel agent types out there?

I'm planning a big adventure next March/April... from Portugal to Bali, ~6 weeks. Flights from Portugal are limited and fiddly, so it probably makes sense to combine it with a trip back to the UK and set off from a London airport (?). I'd like to break the journey there and back, to avoid jet lag and keep costs down if possible. Any suggestions? I spent a couple of hours on Skyscanner and my brain exploded.

Are you wanting to stop in different places in each direction? That might prove tricky.
Dubai and Singapore seem to be the likely stops from Lisbon - although some of those are 2 stops, so you could spend time in Zurich or Paris?

From London, Singapore, KL and Dubai seem to be the stopping places.

I had a quick look, and the prices seem to shoot up, but have you looked at, say Lisbon, London, Bali, Lisbon as a multi city trip, and see if that throws out any interesting stops? Think I saw Helsinki....

Thank you, @LionessesRules! A friend mentioned someone who knew someone who knew someone who had flown out via Turkey, and someone else who went via Vienna and Qatar. There are so many possibilities that I don't really know where to start. I suppose what I'm looking for is someone who's more of a globe-trotter than me to say "What you really want to do is..." !!!!!

I don't mind doing the same route coming back. But would prefer to keep costs down, so that probably rules out Helsinki and Zurich!

If you are planning to stay for 6 weeks in Bali the visa on arrival in Indonesia is only valid for 30 days and you will need to plan logistics of extending into your trip (or get a sponsored visa before you travel). We’ve just got back from Bali and Lombok and loved it.

Thank you @Fedupofballs , in that case I'll aim to spend a week getting there, a month in Bali, and a week getting back!

@alcemeg make that 29 nights - your arrival day counts as 1 day as does your departure, it isn’t full 24 hour periods!
