Sunny holiday advice

We are thinking of going abroad next summer for a sunny resort holiday for the first time. Up to now we've always done self catering UK cottages. I'm after some advice please. After a bit of thought I've concluded that I would be so bored on an AI holiday. We always go out and visit castles/old houses/museums/farms etc and do a bit of walking (although the children are resistant) so we'd like to do similar abroad. We'd like to try a resort so there is a pool for the children and possibly a club they can go to sometimes. Where can you suggest is good? The most we have ever spent on a holiday was £1000 and that was Center Parcs which I hated every second of, so when I'm searching and they cost 2.5k I'm still choking but have accepted a 'summer' holiday will be more expensive than what we are used to. TIA

What about something like Eurocamp? You could look at the quieter ones where you can have a pool but still do sightseeing?

Have a look at Huttopia Sud Ardeche in France. It sounds like it might be right up your street and wasn’t too expensive either.

Second Huttopia, lovely sites. We've just been to Beaulieu sur Dordogne, pool, river to swim in, very quiet site, daily activities the kids could do if they wanted but not all pushy and loads and loads to do in the region. The statics and lodges are very reasonable and offer all you need. We've been by the sea before and there was loud nighttime entertainment there so not all are quiet but the site filters them by type of site.

THanks for these ideas. It is not at all what I was thinking (I was looking at Menorca/Tenerife/ etc!) but I've had a look and am not averse at all. The second option has no availability until the year 3000 but Eurocamp interested me. I'm now trying to convince my husband...
If you've done Eurocamp, is it anything like Center Parcs? I hated Center Parcs with a passion.
Is there any element of luxury to it etc? Is it easy to park, get out of, cook etc?

I'm going to look more into it though.
