Help!! Partner is off to Australia on 10 Oct ,I've just checked and he needs ?digital proof of vaccination .So that's the first panic .

What else has he overlooked ?

GrandSlamFinalee · 21/08/2022 14:11

Is he not vaccinated? Why is it a panic?

peridito · 21/08/2022 16:33

Yes ,he's vaccinated .I'm panicking because I've only ever been abroad 4 times and it seems like a huge unknown .(I'm in my 70s )
Plus I've left the details and arrangements to him ,as it's only him going ,and he is not organised and is devoid of common sense .
Is it just the proof of vaccination that's needed ?

Why isn't he sorting his own travel requirements out?

Roussette · 21/08/2022 16:56

Has he sorted a visa? He will need either an eVisa 651 or an ETA. One of ours took weeks to come through.

Proof of vaccination is easy if you have downloaded the NHS app

peridito · 21/08/2022 17:09

Thank you Roussette.I've just asked him about the visa ,he says he's "on it" and that his understanding is that it only takes 24 hours .

Panyspotter -it would take a whole separate thread to answer your question .

You can download an International Covid Vaccination pass - 3 separate documents - from the NHS website. I download it straight to my phone.

Or you can download as PDFs and print them out.

Hiya... well... yes we we hought that too. Mine came through approved in 10 minutes. My husband's not.

We waited and waited and we were really panicing. We applied for the eVisa 651 online and it just went into 'received'. Day after day went by. Nothing happened. Apparently a proportion of them go for manual checking and it can take weeks. Because of our holiday and what we paid (it's a once in a lifetime trip), we decided for him to download the Aus App and apply for an ETA. That came through straightaway but it's not assured that it will. We were just lucky. (It's complicated to do, happy to help if he has to go this route)
4 days later the original eVisa651 did come through, but the stress and strain of how much money we would lose was awful. It was over 3 weeks to sort all in all.

Your husband's will probably come straight through, we were just unlucky. Feel free to ask anything... now we have the Visas we're happy and so looking forward to our holiday in a few weeks.

The Covid pass is easy.

The Australian visa can take several days. There doesn't seem to much pattern as to why some take longer than others. Mine appeared in my email pretty much immediately. But a friend of mine had to wait quite a long time. She had a very English name so it was nothing to do with that. It takes no time to apply for, so just do it straightaway.

To enter Singapore you will need to be fully vaccinated and have proof. Within 3 days of travel you have to complete your online travel declaration. All flights into Singapore require passengers to wear a mask for the duration of the flight (not the cloth type) In Singapore masks are still mandatory indoors and on public transport. You are required to download the track and trace app.

Reassure me ?

No worries perdito.

What you need to do is this... log on to Singapore Airlines. You have the booking reference on that paperwork. You will be able to see your DH's flight on the actual Singapore Airlines website and be reassured.

We are flying BA for our big trip, I keep logging on to check all is OK! And I didn't book the flights, a travel agent/company booked it for me as part of our hol.

Here is the link for you to log in... just needs the booking ref and surname

www.singaporeair.com/en_UK/sg/plan-travel/your-booking/managebooking/

You can probably choose your seats too, you might want to pay extra for more comfortable ones.

peridito · 23/08/2022 09:50

Thank you Roussette for walking me through this .I've accessed the link you so kindly posted .I've entered the booking ref and see that I could click on the link that says Download tickets and receipts .So is that what one does to get the ticket and check in on line ?

OP posts:
GrandSlamFinalee · 23/08/2022 10:36

He has a ticket - there is a booking reference and he can see his flight online.

There are no ‘physical’ paper tickets as such anymore. With the booking reference he can check in 24/48 hours before departure, or whenever it opens for this particular airline.

Even easier to do, is to simply show up at the airport and show his passport to the check in staff. Just with that they’ll be able to issue him a boarding pass - they have the ticket on their system.

Roussette · 23/08/2022 10:43

For long haul I don't check in online as you have to dump luggage and queue for that.

You can check in at the machines at the airport, and then bag drop, but you still have to queue! The only thing I do is book seats which,.if he pays, he can do now. We do economy but don't want to be sat near the toilets!

As Grand says there are no tickets, your passport is your ticket really
😊

peridito · 23/08/2022 11:59

Thank you both for that! I sort of knew that paper tickets weren't a thing now but I expected something printable or on one's phone with a QR code .
Ho hum .
But you might smile at this example of my partner being even more clueless in navigating the modern world than me .Asking him to pick up a butternut squash at the shop and even with showing him a picture on line ,he was very confused asking if it came in a bottle .
We do drink a lot of squash so I'm not that surprised .
Sigh .

Roussette · 23/08/2022 12:05

I get you! Daren't send my DH shopping!

We've done quite a bit of long haul so we are OK with it all now. But that was why I was in such a panic about the Visa, it was completely out of our control and there was absolutely no way you could chase it.

Good luck with it all!
