Anyone been to this area and can tell me if it's a nice place to visit.

Got a few days free and looking to drive to France, we've never done this before we always have flown in the past for holidays, but we have 5 days free at the end of the school holidays and we're all exhausted and need some time away from home. Beaches look lovely and there looks like there's a few things to do there plus the journeys not too far, any advice?

Apologies for misspelling of name, bloody auto correct wasn't having it.

It’s not a pretty town quite functional and busy and the town is up a hill from the port.

The bits near the beach are nicer but a short drive from the Center.

though we did have the best meal in a longtime a few months ago at a restaurant in old town. 😁

Le touquet is a bit further on & nicer for a break.

Look around Wimerux a little further south - lovely costal town
Boulogne has lovely city walls
To walk around plus great food

They've got a lovely aquarium there! We stopped in on the way back from slightly further down near Le Touquet which was a very lovely area.

We were looking at Le Touquet too, DD went there on a school trip many years ago. Do you think it would be better to stay there.

DD 2 just said to me about the aquarium actually.

I've only been to the beach. When the tide is out, it goes quite far. It's quiet in the morning and gets busy in the afternoon. There is a cafe there. We stayed nearby and it was good for 1 day out.

I found Boulogne a lovely place to visit. Old town, fortress etc, up the hill, so good views from the ramparts. Beach was clean and inviting. There's also the working port of course, which provides a contrast to the old town area. The aquarium is called Nausicaa and seemed popular. Personally I preferred Boulogne to Le Touquet, but that could partly be because there was torrential rain when I went to Le Touquet!

A little further on from Le Touquet is Berck which is a lovely town with gorgeous beach plus Bagatelle theme park. There are plenty of nice beaches on that bit of coast. If you fancy going in the other direction you’re not too far from the Belgian border.

It's a lovely area, I've visited several times as a teacher on school trips and would love to go back without 50 kids!

Boulogne is a super little town, good modern shopping area and the old town is so pretty.
Le Touquet is gorgeous too.

The aquarium is amazing! We spent almost a full day there with two young DC, it has ruined aquariums for them now though as the two UK ones we have visited since were awful in comparison!

We do it at my school too. DD's school do Le Touquet, she went in Y7 5 years ago but only for a day so didn't really see much.

A bit further inland (16 kilometres) from Le Touquet is Montreuil sur Mer. Amazing ramparts and gateways, old buildings, churches and plenty of restaurants. It's also the setting of Les Miserables!

happystory · 18/08/2022 08:18

You could be Le Touquet in 40 minutes, lovely seaside resort with lots to do and loads of restaurants

Agreed! It's right by the beach as well so you can leave to have lunch and then re-enter for the afternoon.
We went for a day in early June a few years ago and there was ample parking right by the beach, a short walk from the aquarium. There was also an enormous, beautiful old carousel outside as well - I don't know if it's still there though.

I once had a lovely couple of days with my children. It was much nicer than I expected. Old town looks pretty. Big beach. Had some nice food. Hired bikes. Didn't take the car, went as foot passengers, very easy trip but still feels like you are away.

Been to the other places nearby on other occasions. Wimereux has a lovely windy beach.
