Can anyone help? Really want to go to Italy next year (mainland or islands) mainly because of the food and because we used to go in our prekids days. But we will have a preschooler and an under 1. Holidays so far with preschooler have been all about a kiddies pool, and a beachside hotel (Greece / Mallorca type resorts).

I've been looking at Italy and I can't seem to find that kind of hotel/ resort so much -hotels seem a a lot smaller and fewer facilities, not beach side etc. Would have been great prekids but now we need to keep the peace!

can anyone recommend anywhere that has this kind of 'easy' set up for young kids? Doesn't have to be all inclusive, in fact would prefer it if not, but just have easy access to facilities for fussy kids. Thanks!

Years ago when DD was small we went to Lake Garda, self-catering aparthotel, in Garda Town. I can't remember where we stayed nor who we went with but it was an easy walk into Town. Italy is brilliant for kids. Wherever you go you'll be welcomed. Italians make a lot of fuss over children. There's always high chairs available and half portion sizes on request. My daughter was called Bella over and over!

www.delphinahotels.co.uk/index_en.html Sardinia. Le Dune is particularly set up for small children. Though we went to Cala di Falco when dd was a baby.

We just came back from Bibione, Italy (near Venice) and it was amazing! Look up Village Turistico Internationale - it's a 5* resort but also have a camp site. The pools are perfect for kids (loads of them and with slides for all ages) and it has a great kidz club all day long. It's also right on the beach and 3 mins from shops/restaurants and has a free little train that will take you even further through Bibione (including to a Luna Park 10 mins away). It's literally perfect for kids

Just be careful where you go - we went to Lake Como when the DC were 1 and 3 and it was not a great success. Como and the surrounds are all set up for romantic getaways and we struggled to find anything to do with the kids. It rained solidly for a week and there was no indoor pool. Breakfast served from 8.30, DC were up at 6. Etc etc

Italy is fantastic for kids. They can actually eat at a restaurant, be a kid and not be complained about! We went 3 times when our kids were under 5 and loved each time. Always stayed at a eurocamp type place which I would totally recommend. You get the kitchen so can prepare things they like rather than eating out all the time, they have amazing pool complexes and parks right by the bars etc. We always did a fly drive and it was perfect. Got to combine fun in the park with driving around and culture and could time journeys for good naps! I would make sure you get a caravan/lodge with air-con.

There are loads of very child-friendly resorts in Sardinia - Chia Laguna, Forte Village, Cala di Lepre, Abi d’Oru…
