Just that really. Where should we be staying to make things easiest to see the most?

Budget not too much of an issue. Location seems to be paramount.
Help please!

The Mitte area is close to lots of the sights.

faffadoodledo · 14/08/2022 19:02

Thank you @Boosterquery that's a good start for my search

Anywhere central, ideally on the S3/5/7/9 train lines. I’d recommend anywhere in Mitte, Charlottenburg (the Zoo area), Kreuzberg but not too far south.

TizerorFizz · 14/08/2022 20:14

We stayed at the Westin Grand. Just off Unter den Linden. It’s very handy for the Brandenburg Gate, the Reichstag (queues form early) and handy enough for the museum area. Depends what you want to see of course.

I stayed at the Kempinski hotel and that worked really well.

faffadoodledo · 15/08/2022 06:40

Oo kempinski looks lovely!

The Kempinski Adlon was where Michael Jackson dangled his baby over the balcony. It’s always used by the good and the great but it’s huge.

JamieFrasersBigSwingingKilt · 15/08/2022 08:13

We stayed at the Adlon too. It was excellent and well-located. I recommend seeing the Topography of Terror exhibition; a complete eye-opener.

EmmaStone · 15/08/2022 08:15

I took my son for 2 nights earlier in the year, we stayed at the Novotel in the Mitte, good value (fantastic breakfast!), and perfect location.

NewMoney1000000 · 15/08/2022 08:19

It is a lovely hotel, I had a view of the gate from my room. I spent four nights there for my birthday just before lockdown and really recommend it. The breakfast is incredible, they have a whole menu just for all the different teas they do.
We were able to walk everywhere and one day took a trip out to visit Charlottenburg Palace. My DS had gone the week before and recommended a trip to the Sony Center which was cool so we went for a meal there and had a fabulous meal for my birthday at the TV tower.
I am sure you will a fab time, there’s a lot to see and do. We did a boat trip and that was good.

Thanks all! I'm beginning to think our time there won't be enough. inter railing so it's all a bit whistlstop! But I suppose we'll get a good sense of where to return to if it's not enough.

Interraung and the Adlon is an interesting combination! The Westin Grand is very close to the Adlon and less grand but still in a great location. 2 nights really is scratching the surface. We did 4 nights and even that didn’t cover much! Early flight in and late flight home.

faffadoodledo · 15/08/2022 10:04

It's two nights but we're coming in and out on night trains so more days

You can always go back, I’ve done that with lots of places I visited on cruises. Two nights/three days is still worth going, you’ll be able to see lots of the sights.

NewMoney1000000 · 15/08/2022 10:45

The Parliament building is worth a visit.

TizerorFizz · 15/08/2022 11:19

A night train takes up night one. You then see nothing on that day.?You have one day, then check out. Then a day before you get the train but no hotel room. So that needs managing. No doubt left luggage at the hotel but not ideal for a night train out.

faffadoodledo · 15/08/2022 11:27

Well that's our plan @TizerorFizz
Thanks for your input.
I have every confidence the hotels will look after our gear.

The Adlon is very central but very expensive.

Transport is great, so just stay somewhere near a train or tram stop. Mitte is the most central area.

We've stayed at Gat Point Charlie, the Movenpick and Holiday Inn Express and all have been good.

whiteroseredrose · 15/08/2022 15:39

We stayed in an apartment near Friedreichstrasse Station in Mitte. It was very convenient.

twilightcafe · 15/08/2022 16:22

I recommend Select Hotel The Wall. It's round the corner from Checkpoint Charlie and Kochstrasse metro station. It's built on the site of the Berlin Wall, so some rooms have a glass panel to show where the wall would have stood.
Rooms start from £50 a night if booked far enough in advance. I paid £120 and still thought that was excellent value.

faffadoodledo · 22/08/2022 16:29

I've booked the art 'otel Mitte. It's a Radissen but looks quite quirky and is bang in the recommended area. And a short walk to the station. Fingers crossed and thanks for the advice guys!
