Rain due in France all week-anyone want to refresh the weather forecast together?

I know it’s really moany and I’m lucky to have the holiday but after years of dreaming, we finally have a campervan and are taking it to France, and it looks like it’s the only wet week they are having all august. It literally stops raining the day we leave. I thought we would be in the pool all week and on lovely bike rides but it doesn’t look particularly warm either. Anyone else going to France this week who is refreshing the weather forecast and googling wet weather activities? Want to join in a self indulgent moan?

Oh god. Which bit of France? We leave tomorrow

HavfrueDenizKisi · 14/08/2022 07:52

I'm in France. It's a big country. Warm here and forecast 30 degrees all week. 🤷🏻‍♀️

We live here and it is currently very gentle rain. I'd perhaps not get too worried, I'd be more worried about wildfires if it doesn't. We have restrictions on water use in almost every department, which includes topping up pools. It really was too hot over the last month to do anything during the day. Even a walk round the garden at 8pm at night resulted in full all body sweat drenched clothes.

GrandSlamFinalee · 14/08/2022 07:55

Have a look at an hourly forecast. 40-70% probability and with those temperatures, doesn’t mean it will be raining all day every day.

hellcatspangle · 14/08/2022 07:56

Tbf if you look at the detailed forecast on bbc weather, it looks nowhere near as bad. Yes there are some showers but also sunny spells.

I'm in bone dry London and I cannot wait for rain tomorrow even though it's my week off with the kids. I bet everyone you meet in Loire will be really happy. There's some reporting that this might be the worst drought in 500 years 😱.

Hidingfromsnacks · 14/08/2022 08:16

I know it’s needed, I’m in London too and it’s a tinderbox. I just also know that it won’t be quite what we thought it would be activities and campervan wise and am just slightly thinking we’ve got bad luck to have booked these few days rather than last or next week.

We visited relatives in France last week , way further south than that but still, at the start of the week the forecast looked just liked that. What we actually ended up with was one cloudy afternoon and about 2 minutes of drizzle so light we weren’t even sure that was even really raining. Much to locals annoyance because it was so hot and everyone is really worried about forest fires.

I heard something a few weeks ago that in these extreme temperatures the rain evaporates before it comes down to ground level.

That may be what you experienced?

OP I think that forecast looks good for a week in a campervan. We are just heading back to Calais now after a week in the south of France where it was 35 degrees minimum every day. We've had a good week with lots of swimming but to be honest the hot weather was really limiting and there was a lot we couldn't do (hiking, exploring lovely old towns etc). We also didn't sleep brilliantly because even overnight it was so hot. This was in a stone gite with shutters, I can't begin to imagine how awful it would have been in a campervan. It's low 20s this morning with a bit of rain and it's bloody lovely.

pastaandpesto · 14/08/2022 08:51

To add, there is absolutely NO WAY we could have ridden bikes last week, without getting up and heading out at 6/7am. If you enjoy being active I actually think you've lucked out with the weather. The pool will still be fine at mid 20s.

Teacherteachernotapreacher · 14/08/2022 08:51

Currently just outside Paris in a caravan and have been here a week in 30 plus temperatures. It’s dry as a bone and has been pretty tough especially at night. Have still done lots but kids have struggled. It’s 25 right now and is lovely. Few scattered showers but they’re being soaked up immediately by incredibly dry ground. It doesn’t feel wet at all. I think you’ll be fine and glad to have dodged the heatwave!

CottonSock · 14/08/2022 08:53

I would be pleased it's cooling down

Hidingfromsnacks · 14/08/2022 09:03

Thank you! This is reassuring! You’re right, heatwave in a camper would be grim. Some nice refreshing showers in which I can hide in the carrefour and buy all the nice French wine and bread. Excellent.

We are heading to Disneyland abs the forecast is similar but with thunderstorms thrown in for good measure - can't actually believe it. First rain in so long and to become dry again as soon as we leave, Sod's law!

AlisonDonut · 14/08/2022 09:09

Even in our house I've not been able to sleep without a fan on all night plus various frozen things that I take to bed to cool down. I have a rolling ice pack/frozen bottle of water/pillowcase wet down and frozen range that I go and get if I wake up and the previous thing has melted.

Today is bliss as it has rained and I'm now sitting in a cool breeze.

TenoringBehind · 14/08/2022 11:09

I’m quite envious. We’ve just come back from a fortnight where the daily temperature was 36-39 degrees and we couldn’t do anything or find any respite. We were miserable and uncomfortable and glad to come home.
