Any tips for a safari hol?!

As the name suggests, has anyone got any tips for a safari holiday. We are going for 3 nights (and onwards elsewhere afterwards) in mid Sept to Pilanesburg national park in South Africa. Had to pick somewhere malaria free so this limited options somewhat so I appreciate it's a game reserve and not full blown safari like Kenya/Tanzania but as first timers I'm sure we'll enjoy it!

We have game drives from the accommodation twice a day, around 6am and then 4pm I believe as apparently this is when animals most active.

Any tips? Things we need to bring?

TIA

Don't forget it may not be very warm during the day, & @ 06.00 it could be quite chilly. The vehicles are open-sided.
We did a Zambia/Botswana/SA trip pre-CV. We were told to wear muted, dull, colours so the animals were less likely to see us. But on no account to wear army-style camouflage.

Yes check how cold the nights are.

Torch
Binoculars - borrow if you can
Anti-bite creams and antihistamines
Flip-flops or similar for around camp, in the shower

Fleecy or woolly hat for cold mornings.
As little luggage as possible - most camps include laundry in the price.
A good camera.
Just go prepared for whatever might happen - safari was the best holiday we ever had.

Yes, game drives are typically early am, late pm.

Typical timetable on my Zambia safaris:
5.30 wake up call
6.00 breakfast
6.30 game drive (incl pit stop for tea break and to wee in a bush)
10.30 back to camp
11.00 or midday lunch
Free time (shower, siesta etc)
15.30 tea and cake
16.00 game drive (incl drinks whilst watching sunset). Drive continues after dark
19.30 back to camp for dinner
Possibly camp fire + drinks or early night

We’ve just got back from Safari in SA , I’d recommend packing layers as the early mornings & evenings are very chilly , we went in July the day time was lovely and sunny so you could wear a tee shirt and light jacket . I also took pack a macs we’re glad that we did as we had rain on the last day . We also took antihistimines, steroid cream , I got bitten on the leg by something so was pleased that I had these in my
bag .

You will be given hot water bottles and ponchos for the drives

Our lodge had binoculars so we used them for the drives , your going to have a brilliant time we didn’t want to come home
