BA world traveller plus - is it worth it?

I'm thinking of upgrading us from world traveller (economy) to plus for a flight to Cancun. We're a family of five including a bassinet for baby. For a ten hour flight is it worth the +£1500?

Personally I'd not pay that much for an upgrade to economy plus.

Can you book bulkhead and extra legroom seats instead? Probably a lot cheaper.

The only 'extra' on BA economy plus is slightly better food, and slightly more legroom. Not enough to justify £1500 in my opinion.

Fupoffyagrasshole · 08/08/2022 19:46

Following with interest as I’ve booked premium economy for husband and I and our baby long haul

we had air miles so didn’t cost us extra

we have a row of 2 only so nobody will sit beside us which is nice and I believe the food and drinks are better

not sure what else is a benefit of it though so be keen to hear what others say :)

GrandSlamFinalee · 08/08/2022 19:47

You will also get priority boarding (well, after business class and oneworld members) although that benefit is marmite for parents with young children.

You will also collect more points and miles than you would in economy, if that's something you do!

MaggieFS · 08/08/2022 19:53

At that price for four of you (excl. baby) I would, I like the extra space.

PhoneyM · 08/08/2022 19:54

I’d pay that for BA premium. The overnight return one would be worth it too.

wingingit33 · 08/08/2022 19:56

I've booked it. As pp said, the overnight flight home I think will be worth it.

I’d do it for the overnight flight home. Not sure about both ways.
it’s not just extra legroom, seats should be wider too as less of them across.

PhoneyM · 08/08/2022 19:59

Enjoy! Fizz before takeoff, nicer food, more snacks, footrest and recline to actually sleep, fewer people so a bit quieter.

Canyoudigityesyoucan · 08/08/2022 20:09

There’s really not that much space between WT and WT+

I think £1500 seems high for you all, and not sure you’d really see the value. The seats were just as close to one another and unless you get a 2 seater on your own it feels just like economy.

Crikeyalmighty · 08/08/2022 20:13

We didn't think it was worth it- used it back from LA

Way out where we just paid for extra legroom and had bulkhead seats was way better and at far less cost

wingingit33 · 08/08/2022 21:00

@Canyoudigityesyoucan yes we've booked two lots of twos, one set behind the other plus bassinet so feels more private. Seat widths definitely wider as there's 8 seats in a row rather than 10.

In a plane the extra six inches of seat pitch really feel like a lot and I think you will appreciate it over ten hours. One thing I didn’t like about WT+ was that the seat arms are fixed, although if you are using up all the seats in your row, I guess it doesn’t matter, but I used to travel alone and if the seat beside me was empty, it was a shame not to be able to use it.

Amrapaali · 10/08/2022 07:53

Definitely worth it. Booked it for a recent 10 hour flight. My daughter and I have never been able to sleep on airplanes. But both of us took lovely long naps and woke up refreshed. The extra space and better seats definitely help.

QueenOfWeeds · 10/08/2022 07:55

Yes @Aprilx exactly this! I had a night flight and ended up with a row to myself, but couldn’t take advantage of it.

mondaytosunday · 10/08/2022 08:36

Is this the same as premium economy? Or the in between one.
I think on BA premium is not worth it, the seats aren't that much bigger, but on Virgin it definitely is. I'm saving my points from Tesco vouchers to upgrade us to Premium when we travel to the States next year.

gogohmm · 10/08/2022 08:40

It was nice BUT you need to factor in the cost of reserving seats because everyone had already booked them when I logged into 2 weeks before the flights (it's only free 24 hours before unless you have higher loyalty card status) we had to sit separately.

gogohmm · 10/08/2022 08:41

It's £50 each, each way to reserve seats I should add!

Baxdream · 10/08/2022 09:16

If it means a row of two, it's worth every penny! We flew to Mauritius and got extra leg room but it was so difficult to sleep when people were queuing near us.

Next time I fly long haul I'm definitely upgrading

wingingit33 · 10/08/2022 09:32

@gogohmm we seemed to wangle free seat selection so already got 2 pairs booked ready for March

OP posts:
ajandjjmum · 10/08/2022 09:45

If it's relevant, we have always had extra baggage allowance on WT+, which might be helpful.

JorisBonson · 10/08/2022 09:47

We flew 12 hours in WT+ and it was 100% worth the extra money.

It’s because you have a baby. BA is good for something!
