Looking for a city break in October for adults. If you have been to all of them which would you recommend and why? Thanks

I think you'd miss out on a lot of Iceland if you only stayed in Reykjavik. You'd need longer really.
Rome is great but you won't see everything - is that a problem?
I agree Dubrovnik is compact but you'd get a chance to visit it without the summer crowds.
Have never been to Porto so can't comment but would definitely recommend Lisbon.

Rome if you’ve never been - there’s so much to do and it’s a must see city once.

If you’ve been to Rome then I’d say Dubrovnik is great for a city break but - at least in the summer - it’s very busy with big tour groups and cruise ship day trippers. So I’d say Porto is more relaxing and chill but maybe has a bit less to do - it depends what you want really.

Iceland is awesome and I love Reykjavik. It’s very different and with the weather might feel less relaxing than your other choices, but if you’re adventurous/outdoorsy it would be great.

Rome. Always something new to see or a new district to discover. Dubrovnik is small, lovely and absolutely packed: more of a day out than a base for a 3-night weekend. Felt like a real tourist trap when we were there. Porto's lovely but we felt we'd seen enough by the end of the second day.

I had to go to Helsinki several times a year for a couple of years in the noughties and found it rather dull and provincial and too often grey and damp. It wouldn't be high up on my list of places to visit.

@Pluvia the OP was asking about Iceland not Finland!

Porto - fabulous port houses to visit and sample, opportunity for boat trip further afield. Been a couple of times, as has dd. Plenty to do and great places to eat/drink.

Dubrovnik - old city is compact but lovely and loads of places to eat; really recommend the 360 restaurant. We were there a week and hired a car and drive into Mostar, Bosnia and a lovely waterfall place too.

Not been to Rome.

Not been to Iceland either but it's in my to do list.

Been to all and I'd say Rome. Iceland needs longer and it's too pricy. Dubrovnik is too small, Porto is a good second choice.

Been to all 3. Rome of course has the most sights. Love it but did get pickpocketed. Dubrovnik is super but not a lot going on. For some reason I really didn't take to Porto. After port tours, not much there.
However my all time, can't recommend enough city, is Budapest. It's got everything. It's a really fun place and they have frequent festivals.
Trying out Vilnius next month....
