Experiences of getting a ferry from UK to Spain?

Hi

We are looking at using the Brittany Ferries service from Portsmouth or Plymouth in summer 2023

We would be driving down from North of England

Just wondering what people's experiences of the ferry is like and any advice of whether better to go from Portsmouth (shorter drive to get to Port) or Plymouth (shorter ferry crossing)

Very early days of planning but would be fab to hear people's experiences of the ferry and also spaces to visit and stay at in Northern Spain while we there

We are just returning from a holiday in this part of Spain and we took an alternative option. Train from St Pancras to Pais then paris to Hedaye. Small local train to San Sebastián . Great way to travel.
We were originally
Going to hire a car there but prices have gone up so much we opted for buses which were really reliable. Spent 2 nights San Sebastián, week in Oviedo, 2 nights in Leon and then returned to San Sebastián .
DH has family in the north so we have been before, visited Pamplona, Jaca, Santiago , Logrono. I would highly recommend, very few English people seem to holiday here . This year it has been very hot, we saw no rain and the day we visited the Picos de Europa it was frankly unbearable as there was no shade at all. The weather in this part of Spain seems to be getting a lot hotter recently.

We did it in 2011 with DCs aged 4 and 7. It was actually lovely, the children's entertainment was really good, they lovesd the pool and the restaurant was a very high standard. I spoke to a pharmacist before I left and she recommended Kwells seasickness pills. It was a bit rocky on the way back, others were ill but we were all OK.

I did a similar route about 25 years ago although the London start was Waterloo in those days, but we took a coach from the Spanish border. I love northern Spain

Train journey sounds fab but we are planning to take our motorhome so that isn't an option for us on this occasion

We’re off on a ferry holiday for the first time this year with DD, 4 and DS, 6 months, so perfect timing. Any suggestions for how to keep DD entertained?
