Would you go long haul with 2 under 2.5?

Can't decide on a holiday for later this year (gonna do a last min cheap deal).
Husband and I would quite like to do somewhere in the Caribbean, either Barbados or Jamaica most likely, but our two girls will be 2 years 9 months and 6 months old. Is that crazy?
We did Dubai 7 hours with DD1 last year and the flight was fine, she happily watched the in flight movies and ate the whole flight but we've entered the tantrum stage with her now so I'm concerned she'll get bored and want to run around and I'm worried about DD2 being so young at 5/6 months when we travel.
Am I crazy to consider it? Anyone else done it?

I'd do it. Only have 1 but she's been long haul since 9m old, aroun 2.5 we took her to Grenada and St Lucia and she was fine, lots of snacks for the flight, crayola magic pens and pads, kindle with tv shows and games, her favourite blanket and teddy.
Book a bassinet for the baby if you can, make it so much easier, being in the bulkhead will give your toddle room to sit on the floor

Yes, if I had a nanny who was travelling in coach with the children and I was in business or first class.

MissBattleaxe · 13/08/2022 08:43

@sashh are you Kirsty Allsopp? 😎

Chanel05 · 13/08/2022 13:24

Yep.

My dd is under 2 and we've been to Florida twice in the last year. Due to have another baby in December and we will be going to Florida again before he's 6 months old.

@MissBattleaxe

Nope, I read a magazine article written by a nanny to some rock star types and they used to book her and the children coach.

She said luxury hotels were a nightmare to try to keep the kids occupied because they stayed n places you had to call room service for a cup of tea.

Not for a holiday, the jetlag, sleep disruption, all that sun cream and watching them. We've just done long haul with my kids, previously all our holidays were short haul. It's only now they are old enough it's been worth it. All previous holidays have involved being constantly on duty around the pool etc. This holiday had been quite relaxing because they are both old enough and good enough swimmers that ai don't have to watch them like a hawk , I can read a book or have a snooze.

We did it all the time! For a week, the benefit is marginal but there. For 2 weeks absolutely. We are about to do a 3hr flight for a week with 6mo, 4yo and 7yo, I think anything up to 7h we wouldn’t think about the flight time at all, or really up to 13 hours with 2 parents. I brought a 6mo and 3.5yo back from australia on my own (~30 hours travel not including stop over once you’ve sat in the delayed plane an extra few hours) but I wouldn’t sell that as a fun experience.

Has anyone done long haul business class with an infant? 3 months old.

Are you allowed to bring the baby in business class with you for periods of time?
I feel a bit mean making the nanny sit with economy with the baby the whole time, but at the same time she's working and we're on holiday so I do expect her to look after the bub.

brookln · 15/08/2022 11:47

Sorry @sashh only just noticed you said 'IF'! Sleep deprived new mum over here 🙈

AdriannaP · 17/08/2022 02:54

@brookln generally airlines don’t want passengers from economy in business class even if you have friends/family there. I don’t know if they make an exception for a baby. IMO it’s easier to book the baby in business class, you don’t pay for them after all.

Yes I know it's easy to book a baby on business class, but I think it if the nanny is working then it makes sense for her to look after the baby in economy.
But it would be nice to give nanny a break and take the baby into business with us for part of the flight.

AdriannaP · 17/08/2022 10:23

Don’t think the airline is keen for you to do that. Maybe check.

Can’t you send the baby back to nanny in economy for a bit. Wouldn’t that be easier?

Luredbyapomegranate · 17/08/2022 10:26

If you want to get winter sun and there’s no where closer then sure.

Little presents in tissue paper for the toddler every hour. Make sure she’s had a good run in the airport before she gets on, and take her on regular walks around the cabin. Get the best flight you can for their schedule.
