USA with kids and proof of vaccination - help!

We’re travelling to the USA next week, and I’m trying to work out what counts as proof of vaccination for my DC (11 and 14). The website seems to imply that their vaccination card isn’t ok, but a photo of it would be - but that seems mad! Has anyone done it recently and can help me out?

We've recently travelled with similar ages (not to USA) and needed proof of vaccination. You can request a vaccine status letter online for children or by calling 111.
Or for you can create an NHS login (for over 12s) and get an online pass.

ShortOfShorts · 02/08/2022 07:07

@Akite Thanks! I literally just ordered it online for my 11yo, if it works it’s an amazing service! I think I’ll get my 14yo to download the NHS app, as that has it and will be generally useful anyway. Thanks so much!

Yes vaccination status letter. They take a couple of days to arrive

ShortOfShorts · 02/08/2022 07:26

I just got it via email within 5 minutes!

We are not long back and under 18’s do not need proof of vaccination for the USA.

SeaToSki · 02/08/2022 07:35

They take pretty much anything, but do make sure you have paper copies (print outs are fine) of everything. Technically they can ask to see them when you land, but that hasnt been happening in ages.

I thought the website said it was proof of vaccination or negative test for kids? Did you have to test at 3-5 days?

And of course different states have different requirements - looks like California is still big on mask wearing, so I need to buy some more disposable masks as they regard reusable fabric ones as less good.

Oh, so having mine in my Apple wallet isn’t acceptable? I was going to do that for the adults.

@ShortOfShorts they have done away with the pre flight testing. Under 18’s not required to be vaccinated.
we were in Florida and New York, some places still like you to wear a mask yes.
and no we did not test after 3-5 days either.

RusholmeRuffian · 02/08/2022 08:03

We were in California a couple of months ago and nobody was bothered about mask wearing. May have changed since I suppose.

That’s good to know, thanks! Looks like it might just be the airport and the plane then.

You don’t HAVE to wear them in the airport or plane either anymore @ShortOfShorts

We went recently and I didn’t need to supply the vaccination certificate for my 12 year old on the VeriFLY app. I printed them but no one asked me to see them! The only time mandatory for a mask was the security bit for a boat trip to see the Statue of Liberty - that was it! I would ensure that you have a few masks with you just in case.

PatriciaHolm · 02/08/2022 09:51

Under 18s just need the attestation filed out on their behalf, as they don't need any proof of vacc or anything else. If your destination accepts Verifly that's the easiest.

ShortOfShorts · 02/08/2022 13:41

I’ve just been looking up Verifly - is it necessary? Looks like I can just print the attestations for all of us, and proof of vaccine for the adults, and that’s all I’ll need on the covid side. Also passports and ESTAs and tickets, of course.

if your flying BA then if you dont use verifly you will need to check in at the airport

AttilaTheMeerkat · 02/08/2022 14:02

Verifly is merely a checklist. If not used you will need to check in at the airport (the staff will ask to see the necessary documentation in order to board like the vaccination certs for the adults and signed attestations).

Children 17 and under are exempt from the vaccination requirement.

ShortOfShorts · 02/08/2022 15:34

I’m flying Virgin - their website doesn’t say anything about accepting Verifly, and nor does the Verifly website. I’ll just get to the airport in plenty of time and check in there.

In california now- masks not mandated apart from in the very odd tourist attraction we've been to. It's all pretty laid back. Just download your vacc certificate on apple wallet- assume it's linked as we breezed through us customs without being asked for it. Our kids 12/15 not vaccinated, no testing etc required as PP poster said.. all those rules were dropped a month or so back. Enjoy!!

WhoMe231 · 02/08/2022 15:53

We went to Florida 4 weeks ago with kids (7, 10, 16) and they didn’t need proof of vaccination. Just me and husband. Had to do some online thing though - the airline should send you a link couple days before your departure to complete the info.
