Next summer we will hopefully have the opportunity to have a slightly more special (read bigger budget) holiday. The children will be sub 6yrs old

What we want is a hotel that has apartments not hotel room and a good age appropriate splash park (the easy part) BUT we'd like it to be in a safe walking distance to a traditional village/small town not somewhere that seems to be mega touristy or ruined by tourism (here in lies the challenge). Ideally we would also like there to be childcare availability but that could be sacrificed for the rest. We love places like Limone on Lake Garda and the small Greek fishing villages.

Has anyone been somewhere that would match that?

Locations we would love Greece or Italy, be happy with Portugal and anywhere else would be considered if they hit the criteria (including the UK)

Please help

Have a look at this hotel. I think Jet2 or Tui go there.

Elounda is beautiful and traditional.

Bella italia at lake garda. It's eurocamp style but I'm sure they do apartments too.

Actually it's not a splash park, there's an assault course in the sea so nag for not age suitable

That Croatia resort looks amazing!! If it has the little village with epic food that is exactly what we want!

Bella Italia is great, I've been and am booked to go again next year. The town it is in is also lovely. However, I get the feeling you want something a bit more luxurious. Bella Italia apartments are more in the basic category so might not be what you are looking for.

@usernotfound0000 I would happily sacrifice luxury for good food, lovely town and happy kids! How do you get to the town from Verona airport? Train?

We took a taxi as it's not far - I have 20km in my head.

It is a really lovely town and the ferry will take you to other towns around the lake. We booked a package with jet2 in an apartment and it included a transfer, it wasn't long though so I imagine wouldn't be long in a taxi.

Thank you both - we LOVE Lake Garda but assumed it wasn't a place for small kids. Nice to be wrong!!!
