We are going to a tiny place just north of Bordeaux, about 45mins to the coast, and we are ferrying then driving (children are 3 and 6). Be warned though, I booked 2 weeks ago and already alot of places were fully booked for the school holidays.

We are flying to a small town near Paris

Berny Riviere, 'tis absolutely charming!

we don't hire a cottage though, we stay in a mobile home

We are leaving early in the morning (from Surrey) doing Dover to calais. Then it is about 7 hours driving. In previous years we have flown, but with 2 children and all the stuff they need a car is easier, plus we are taking the bicycles.

Funny when I looked on CHeznous a lot were fully booked. WHat size and what area are you looking at? We are renting a 5 bedroom place (for 10 of us).

littlerach · 18/01/2008 16:19

There's only 4 of us. So really a 2 bedroom.
Ideally, quite clos eot coast. And in small area.

We were loking at Provence, butit owuld be too far to drive I htink.

Hence loking at atlantic.

Live in wiltshire, so further to drive at this end, but that's okay. We did lookat late evening ferries.

well, a significant proportion of MN seem to decamp en masse to the Vendee in the summer so you may as well join us

from Wilts getting the hovercraft Portsmouth - Cherbourg or Caen means a lot less driving than Dover - Calais

ComeOVeneer · 18/01/2008 16:24

Yes when we have gone to Provence in previous years we flew or (prechildren) drove down over 2 days and stayed in a hotel overnight.

littlerach · 18/01/2008 17:25

Thansk you.

Look at www.gites-de-france.com, go for 3 "ears of corn" or higher and you can't go wrong. Have used them several time, both internet and telephone bookings. Always much cheaper than UK operators/websites.

We are going to the new Centerparcs village that is just East of Paris
