Manchester Airport Overnight Stay

goyuwer · 24/07/2022 19:42

Looking at booking last minute flights and most suitable option seems to be early morning flight. Don't live close to Manchester airport and prefer to use public transport so would need overnight stay.

Prefer to keep it more affordable options if possible
so far have looked at
Premier Inn Heald Green - close to train station so can arrive via train then get taxi in early hours
Or alternatively trains from Piccadilly to airport seem to start 3.30 so could stay in premier inn or easy hotel near to Piccadilly station and get the first train at 3.30am?

Has anyone used either of above options or different hotel recently?

We stayed at The Premier Inn Heald Green in April. I can’t comment on the proximity to the train station as we drove there and then to the airport.
The Premier Inn has a Beefeater located next door (quite literally as there’s a door in Reception taking you right in). I don’t know what else is nearby food wise as we arrived late and left at 4am the next day.
The hotel was clean, quiet and for an overnight stay, ideal with a 10 minute drive to the airport.
We need to book an overnight stay again and will probably opt for the same hotel.

The Radisson Blu in the airport itself is really nice if you can get a room at a decent price.

We stayed at premier inn at the airport north of south can’t remember but they are next to each other. Think it was about £65 for the night and a few minutes drive from the airport for parking

Clayton hotel is across the road from the airport railway station and is usually the cheapest of the airport hotels.
the train station is connected to the skyway ( aerial walkway ) which connects to the terminals.
Clayton has free transport to the terminals which you book when checking in.

Stayed at a Clayton last week. The transfer buses were very efficient.

Premier Inn at Heald Green is fine for an early start to the airport, particularly if you're travelling by train as it's right next to the station.

We stayed in the Hilton at the airport, which for a family room was the cheapest option when we flew in March! They did charge extra for car parking though.

I’m travelling in by train as don’t fancy driving so staying at Manchester premier inn near the city centre train station - £42 for the three of us! This was cheaper including train and hotel than parking for a week!

MissAtomicBomb1 · 25/07/2022 16:45

We've booked the Clayton for Dec. We've booked parking there too as it was really cheap compared to the airport parking.

We have booked to stay in one of the new airport hotels but it's now looking like they may not be open by the time we go so I have just booked the premier inn as back up, was it easy enough to park there overnight when you stayed?

Soontobe60 · 26/07/2022 07:34

We’ve also stayed at the Clayton and booked their parking. It’s a nice hotel, not too expensive either.

Agree it will be a good one if the
price is right. Easy for the train or a taxi- 5 minutes max. Also has a tesco express nearby which might be handy.

AuntieMarys · 26/07/2022 07:38

We always stay at The Radisson....you're right in the terminal

LilacLaurel · 26/07/2022 08:01

I agree the Radison and Clayton are both good but this time round they are both over £200 for the night we need, whereas the premier in was £62! No brainier

FrequentFlyer96 · 26/07/2022 08:15

I stay at Manchester airport hotels regularly. If budget allows, the Radisson is the best - lovely hotel and can walk directly into the terminal so completely stress free in terms of travel to the airport. The terminals are next to each other so it works for all terminals.
As others have said, the Clayton hotel is also quite good and has a bus transfer.
A great option I found recently is the Stanneylands- a short taxi ride from the airport, very nice pub hotel - great breakfasts, nice rooms, friendly staff, surrounded by greenery, feels a bit nicer than staying in a faceless travel hotel, but still very easy in terms of location.

I have actually booked for one of the two new hotels within the airport but they have been delayed opening and even though the Ibis is now saying opening august I decided to book somewhere else (the premier inn) as back up, both have free cancellation so I will just cancel one nearer the time.

OP depending on when you are going, have a look at the new holiday inn and Ibis hotels being built, I booked through booking.com, they are at terminal 2 so right by the train station and then a walk to whichever terminal you need the next day. The ibis is £109 for the night I have booked. Currently saying the ibis opens August and the Holiday inn September.

LilacLaurel
Yes, easy to park, we got there around 7pm on a weekday and there were plenty of spaces.

Great thanks that's good to know if the ibis doesn't open in time and we need to stay at the premier inn!

Depends what time the flight is. There is a train at 0054, after that the next one is 0536.

Yes unfortunately my flight is a 6am so would need a taxi, but it would still work out cheaper then staying at Radission/Clayton/Holiday Inn by £80. I will try and contact them to see if its possible to prebook taxi in advance
