Contact lens wearers on holiday

What do you do to cope with swimming/beach/pool etc? I know that getting lenses wet is a big no no (even though I did it for years before realising) but I don’t fancy wearing glasses when playing with kids in pool etc. I suppose I have no option? What do you do?

I wear contacts swimming/showering and so on. If serious swimming, I put goggles or a mask on. Close my eyes if splashy or jumping in. The risk is really low. Been wearing contacts for 35+ years now.

Can’t get prescription goggles or masks at my power. And not risking losing my glasses while swimming as the lenses alone are £400!

You should not be wearing them in the shower! It’s really dangerous

Get dailies, either through the opticians or online, whatever is cheaper and quicker.

shower/pool/sea - I go in the sea a lot, I surf, swim etc and I use contacts (dailies) all the time and have never had an issue. Swimming pools I definitely use dailies as I consider that the dirtiest water to be in. Make sure you wash your hand before putting them in and out - probably the biggest risk tbh.

A lot of people are suggesting dailies (which I use already) but not sure how that’s better if you’re keeping them in? You’re not meant to wear them at all in the water, whether they’re dailies or not.

I think the issue is when you get water in the lenses and then continue to wear them for hours afterwards. The water can change the shape of the lense of make them stick to your eye risking a scratch and then germs from the water can cause an infection.

I take a lot of dailies on holiday and change them 3 or 4 times a day if I’m in and out of the water. If I got a lot of water in my eyes I’d take them out as soon as I got out the pool and put another pair after a bit of a break. Still not really advisable but better than wearing the same pair for an extended period after you have got them wet
