Hi guys, hoping someone can help. I’m going to Spain in a few weeks & really unsure on what I can do for a bottle fed baby & what water I can give.

if I bought the litre pre made bottles & decanted that into a cold thermos would that be ok for the day? Or is that risky taking it out the original container.

am I better just making them up? What type of water can I use? My health visitor said no to bottled water since it can have high minerals etc in it & im all a tad confused.

Our son was on prescription formula (cmpa) when we went abroad at a similar age but we boiled water and put into a flask to carry around and made his formula up fresh (powder in a little dispenser pot). Would that work?

Sorry should have been more clear, we booked bottles water.

To make life easy we jist yook the ready made bottles of aptamil anf tipped into her normal bottles. I didn't want to faff around making up bottles on joliday, and those bottles don't have to be kept in fridge or anything

We used bottled water. My health visitor said that it was fine but that we should check for Na on the label, which means sodium, and choose one that contains 200mg or less per litre. Check the levels of sulphate (SO or SO4), too. The sulphate levels should be no higher than 250mg per litre. You still need to sterilise the water.

Where are you going in Spain? All tap water in Spain is safe to drink but in some places it doesn't taste nice!

There will be a symbol on the side of the bottled water indicating whether or not it’s suitable to use for baby formula.

Evian is definitely ok for babies so I would just buy that if you can find it. I’d do the small bottles of ready made formula for ease.

I live in Spain. The tap water is perfectly safe to use. It's the EU, not Outer Mongolia Wink

I took some ready made formula in my suitcase but also did a click and collect order at Boots airside to get a load more - I had a mix of the individual ones and the big litre bottles for keeping in the fridge in the villa (once opened). Then we just tipped it into bottles as and when needed. I think I bought sterilising bags to sterilise the bottles but you could just take the tablets and use a container. Also, as someone above said, the bottles of water in Spain do show if they’re safe for babies or not. My son was 8 months when we did this. Have a lovely holiday!

Thanks so much everyone :)

You can use bottled water abroad as long as the sodium and sulphate levels are under certain levels. Tap water can sometimes upset their tummy.

If you’re going out for the day you’ll need a litre thermos to keep the water above 70c to sterilise the powder.

I’d check baby likes ready to feed before you go, we spent £40 on bottles for our holiday that baby didn’t like 🤪 Thankfully I took enough powder anyway!

I would just buy the ready made stuff to make your life easier on holiday!
