Spain - proof of funds?

Am I misunderstanding this or might we have to prove as a family of 4 that we have 400 euros a day to spend in Spain (so 2100 euros for a week) and that it has to be in Euros or travellers cheques plus at least the equivalent of 900 euros available in another currency?

Really?

Please don’t take your information from sources like Liverpool Echo OP.

Use, I don’t know… the official website of the Spanish Foreign Ministry?

Nobody will ask you to have €400 a day in travellers’ cheques, no. Rest assured.

It's widely reported in all the news outlets, the Liverpool echo hasnt gone rogue and made it up you know

They may start doing it but realistically all anyone can do is wait and see. They rely on tourism so I'm going to bet it happens only in extreme crcumsyances

What if you go all inclusive? You wouldn't need that much money a day to spend then.

From Spanish Govt. website that has not been updated since 2020:

“At the request of the competent authorities, the traveller must present proof of having sufficient financial means for the proposed stay or of the ability to legally obtain such means.

In 2020, the minimum amount required is 90 euros per person per day. In any case, and regardless of the length of stay, the traveller must have at least 810 euros or its equivalent in foreign currency.

Economic means may be accredited by presenting cash, traveller's cheques, a credit card accompanied by a bank account statement, an up-to-date bank book, or any other resource that accredits the amount available, such as a credit statement regarding the card or bank account. Bank letters or online bank statements will not be accepted.”

So this isn’t anything new, just the amounts have been increased.

I’ve been going in and out of Spain all my life (Father born in Spain) flip-flopping between two passports. I’ve never had to prove funds availability. Nobody I know has ever mentioned having to do so. The third paragraph above tells you what to bring if you need peace of mind.

Just back from Spain, sexond trip in 3 months. Nothing was asked. Do you have a banking app? Could just show that balance if asked which you won't be.

Feeling a bit better now - media catastrophising as usual and I fell for it. Blush
