Just that really , there's a new hotel in mexico wanting to book for the Xmas break on the 21st but the hotel itself won't be open until the 20th December no reviews as it hasn't been built yet, it's the royalton splash in cancun looks like it's going to be amazing but worried that a. It won't be finished in time and b. There will be lots of teething issues . No where else has really took my fancy apart from le blanc but thats out of budget.

Floralnomad · 23/07/2022 15:56

No

SunshineAndFizz · 23/07/2022 15:59

One day after it 'opens'? Absolutely not.

How many building projects actually get completed on time?

Even if it does...

No reviews.

No established staff, procedures, routines.

Snagging list.

Unwavering721 · 23/07/2022 16:07

Not in a million years. Building works ALWAYS run over schedule. They will have loads of problems, training staff, logistics probs such as clean towels and linen not sorted etc etc. Don’t do it!!! I wouldn’t book until it had been open at least a year. There is a reason it is so cheap to begin with!!

MinglingFlamingo · 23/07/2022 16:24

My parents did this when I was a kid . We got to the airport and we got shuffled to a corner. We ended up going to a hotel which was better for us. The original hotel opened when we still there and some fellow travellers who were more disgruntled than us moved hotels. But we stayed out one thing to remember is even if the hotel is built and open to guests there may well be teething problems with service and things

mrs55 · 23/07/2022 16:38

It's around £8200 total so I wouldn't say it was really cheap to begin with , your all right it's too much of a risk our budget is around £8000 2 adults one child and a 1 year old on that note does anyone have any cancun recommendations?

No way, projects often overrun, even if it is opened in time, you don’t want to be paying good money, to do the snagging OP.

Chellors123 · 23/07/2022 17:13

We were also looking at this hotel - although for March 2023 and we decided against it. In my experience there's always teething problems/certain areas not up and running. It looks great though so maybe one for the future.

We are also looking at the Grand Palladium in Costa Mujeres, has good reviews and is a bit further north and hopefully away from the areas most affected by seaweed.

TizerorFizz · 23/07/2022 17:17

No! Big risk! I wait for reviews!

MrsTerryPratchett · 23/07/2022 17:24

Fuck no. And I build buildings (well, not personally). Supply chain issues mean every single one has overrun recently.

WaveyHair · 23/07/2022 17:26

Nope.

rnsaslkih · 23/07/2022 17:26

No way

Ontomatopea · 23/07/2022 17:27

No. I wouldn't spend that much money on something that doesn't really exist yet.

ToadiesCouzin · 23/07/2022 17:28

No way. I'd be surprised if there's ever been a building project in the history of building projects that has ever been completed on time, to the day, as your booking would require. I'd only book it if it was massively reduced and I was 100% certain I'd be able to get alternative accommodation. Doesn't sound like that's the case, so no no no!

gogohmm · 23/07/2022 17:34

I wouldn't be taking a one year old there anyway. Very expensive and they won't like the flights etc. unless you are mega wealthy £8000 is a huge amount to take a risk on. I would suggest sticking to closer to home where you can definitely get safe baby equipment etc until your youngest no longer requires it.

chilliesandspices · 23/07/2022 17:35

I booked one for 2 weeks after it opened through TUI. About a week before opening they emailed to say it wouldn't be ready and they had organised an alternative. We ended up in a gorgeous adults only hotel in the same cove. It was a much better hotel but I think we got lucky. Not sure there would have been anything we could do if it was worse other than cancel.

justasmalltownmum · 23/07/2022 17:36

No
But I did stay in a fairly newly opened hotel in İstanbul once. They upgraded us for free.

So nice to see they have expanded now too.

mrs55 · 23/07/2022 18:15

Thanks everyone I've definitely decided against it the search continues! Thailand was also on the list but the travel is too much with the kids and being on and off swapping planes etc, might have to up the budget aswell for Mexico there are some beautiful places to stay I just don't have £18,000 to spend on a holiday I hate the fact you pay full price as soon as they turn 2, we were hoping to go to turkey middle of august but baby's passport is still not here so I've gave up hope on that one. I'd hate to turn up and be put in a different hotel the hotel looks amazing but I'll wait until it's established.
