Anyone in Iceland - what to pack for next week

Apologies for another Iceland query!

Am heading there next week for 6 nights with my DC. Am finding it difficult to work out what to pack ( partly because it’s so warm here!).

We won’t be doing any intrepid hiking - 2 nights in rekyavik and then 4 at a hotel about an hour outside. So will be mainly doing the tourist stuff on the golden circle and surroundings.

Its just me and them so trying not to pack too much. Does anyone have any tips? Obviously will pack waterproof jackets, couple of thin fleeces, t shirts and jog pant for kids and hiking type trousers for me. Sweatshirt each and swim stuff. Have thrown some gloves in.

I guess am wondering just how cold it’s likely to be? So would say jog pants, t shirt, fleece and waterproof jacket likely be enough? ( I do appreciate waterproof trousers might be better but don’t have any and think kids would refuse most likely …)

We went in July a few years ago and it rained and rained. So waterproofs!!

I’m here now and it’s a real mixed bag! A couple of days ago it was blue sky, sunny, 18 degrees. Kids were in T shirts and shorts. But other days it’s been 10 degrees and drizzly.

Sounds like what you are planning to bring will work well. I’m mostly just in long sleeved t shirt, walking trousers and coat. Definitely bring waterproofs. It’s not rained for a full day, just showers here and there, but waterproofs have been very much welcome when it has rained. I brought gloves and winder hats but were walking lots and I get too warm with them on.

I don’t know what it’s like right now but it can get really windy so wind proof layers good too. I’d go for waterproofs, and some good layers so you can add and take away depending on the weather.

You can also get nice weather - we went in July 2019 and it was gorgeous. T-shirt weather almost every day for 2 weeks. The key is layers. So wear a t-shirt but have a sweatshirt on hand. We then had thin down jackets and waterproofs to add when needed. Only needed a hat and gloves when we were on the glaciers

Thanks so much everyone! Really helpful.

Forecast at the moment looks generally cloudy and wet, will throw in some shorts for the kids just incase though!

I went around this time of year and your packing list sounds ok. I don’t think I wore shorts at all, jeggings and T-shirt might have been as close as we got! I think I took a hoody and lightweight fleece and waterproof jacket. Didn’t do any serious walking so just took trainers but we didn’t get rain. The coldest we got was on a boat over to an island, although I guess we could have sat inside rather than out on deck!

Ooh and I took a lightweight down jacket which I wore a lot.
