Best and cheapest way to fly from London to Nice?

I was thinking there'd be some super cheap flights but so far I haven't found anything. EasyJet is going to be nearly £500 for 3 of us. Or would you think that was cheap?

dunno really

Does it have to be Nice? I think we flew to Marseille and hired a car (though that may be just as expensive!).

Also went on the train once. That's great fun.

foxinsocks · 18/01/2008 12:52

are you going in school holiday time? probably why the price is so high...

imaginaryfriend · 18/01/2008 14:01

Hello fox!

Yes, school hols. We can't drive so the hire car option wouldn't work for us. We could go by train but wouldn't it take an age?

check www.skyscanner.net for flight comparisons

I've done Marseille to London by train in one day and it was fine. That was 10 years ago so it should be even quicker now.

foxinsocks · 18/01/2008 15:55

yes, they have super speedy trains...can't remember how long it took (was pre kids so time wasn't doing that awful thing of ticking by i n c r e d i b l y slowly like it normally does when you travel with kids!)

imaginaryfriend · 18/01/2008 16:15

I've only found one link to a train which runs overnight from Paris to Nice which takes almost 12 hours!!! We'd have to get the Eurostar to begin with too so it doesn't work out any cheaper than flying.

Fox, there are limits with dd and travel. She's pretty good but long long hours on a train isn't really her thing.

I'm a great fan of train travel, here's some daytime schedules reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en?ld=212.201&seqnr=1&ident=0m.06266201.1200679288&rt=1&OK#focus
or look at www.seat61.com.
If you're talking sleepers then I'm sure your DD will sleep like a log. We've done 6 seperate sleeper trips (3 returns) of 12 hours with DS when he was 3, 4 & 5 and he's loved (and slept) through each one. Cost aside there is something so nice about travelling by train, not least avoiding airports

Mymeems · 18/01/2008 18:10

We flew Heathrow to Nice with BMI, but that was a couple of years ago..

foxinsocks · 18/01/2008 18:10

oh no, ours was much quicker. Like a couple of hours (from either Paris or somewhere eurostar ish) but may not have been directly to Nice. Might have been to another main station on the south coast somewhere. Sorry, am being a bit vague. Will have a look.

ConfusedMover · 18/01/2008 18:13

For trains go to this page www.seat61.com/France.htm#Corail%20Lun%E9a on the seat61 website. www.seat61.com is THE website for train info and links for booking etc.

a few years ago, we flew to Amsterdam - then change of plane to Nice. Amsterdam airport, wow. I think airline was KLM. Cheaper than direct.

ConfusedMover · 18/01/2008 18:22

If you go during the day you change trains in Lille and therefore avoid having to change stations in Paris. You'd need to check but I'm sure some TGV trains have childrens play caridges?

imaginaryfriend · 18/01/2008 21:25

Oh, I love train travel. I'm just not sure dd could do such a long stretch. Looking at those time tables it's around 2 hours London - Lille, then from Lille to Nice is 7 hours! 9 hours in total on a train is a pretty long day for a 5-year-old. It's also fairly pricey with the two trains.

Wotz, I'll check that out, thanks.
