Do hotels have to change linen between guests ?

Discovered ( after a nights sleep) at a 4* big chain hotel that my son's bed contained 5 items of another kids clothes. Had the sheets been changed they would been difficult not to have been discovered.
In covid times I would have thought sheets changing would be an even higher priority. Is it mandatory to change linen between guests ?

I would say it was a bare minimum requirement

RainbowsMoonbeams · 20/07/2022 11:17

Oh that’s grim. I always wonder if they wash those decorative scatter cushions you often get in beds between guests too. 🤢

CousinGregg · 20/07/2022 11:30

They don’t wash the throws, strip thing at the end of the bed or scatter cushions. YUCK!

justasking111 · 20/07/2022 11:34

That's grim, photograph and complain

OnceTwiceThreeTimesAMummy · 20/07/2022 11:40

Ive been a housekeeper before YES you are meant to change all linens. Throws and cushions we only had to wash if stained/visibly dirty, same with the inner duvet only changed when smelly or dirty. Id complain big time

coffeecupsandfairylights · 20/07/2022 11:45

Depends.

Bed linens, yes, but not things like throws or cushions unless they're visibly dirty.

easyday · 20/07/2022 12:00

Definitely complain! They should be very embarrassed and might comp you!

SirenSays · 20/07/2022 12:00

Yes they're supposed to change the sheets. This is one thing I won't compromise on I always check beds first and if necessary ask for a new room.

emmathedilemma · 20/07/2022 17:46

Of course they should!

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 20/07/2022 17:48

Photos and complain. If no grovelling apology, TripAdvisor their asses with the photos!!

Movinghouseatlast · 20/07/2022 17:51

Of course! I really would complain hugely about this, it's absolutely disgusting.

womaninatightspot · 20/07/2022 17:52

I'd complain, I assume you're in a room with multiple beds. I worked as a housekeeper and obviously you wouldn't change beds that haven't been used (bunkbeds in a family room that'd been used for two.) Sloppy housekeeping though.

Never

ILoveAllRainbowsx · 20/07/2022 18:00

I always take my own towels after I stayed in s Premier Inn around 20 years ago and caught them out and they actually admitted it because they couldn't deny it.

I also bring my own pillowcases and would also bring my own sheets if I could.

It is disgusting and I would ask for compensation.

That's why I bring my own pillowcases. I set a reminder on my phone to remove them when I leave as it is easy to forget.

Oh dear God ! That's rank @habibihabibi

As a student I did chambermaiding in the US along with two friends.
We were the bane of the head housekeeper's life as it took us so long to clean the rooms allocated to us, compared to the other US students working as chambermaids.
We know why !!
They weren't doing the job properly.

I pick anything like that up and put it to one side then wash my hands!

knittingaddict · 20/07/2022 18:18

That would be the very minimum I expect from a hotel or holiday home. I would be furious about it and my complaint would be immediate.

Topseyt123 · 20/07/2022 18:24

I would call changing the bed linen the least that is required, certainly in between guests. New guests must have fresh bed linen.

I'd complain, or certainly ask reception to send the housekeeping team up to change the beds. I might even ask to have a different room if one is available.

habibihabibi · 20/07/2022 18:41

We were in interconnecting rooms and arrived in the evening, putting children straight to bed. I'll definitely be checking in the future.
