Has anyone been to Beaumoris.

Beaumaris has the most wonderful ice cream shop. Flavours you can only dream of. Always a queue.

I went by chance on Saturday when visiting the area and I thought it was absolutely lovely. I said to my husband that I’d like to go back for a couple of days. There’s a lot to see in the area as well, Port Meirion isn’t far.

Yes! We happened Uppn this lovely town a few weeks ago and stayed there for the day. It was beautiful. Barely anywhere accepts cash tho so ensure you've got your debit card.

How long are you planning on going for? Beaumaris is a day trip at best, really. Very very beautiful but if you're planning on making it the lions share of a holiday stay you may be a little underwhelmed. It does however make a good base for travelling around north wales in general. I'd look at places to visit like Llanberis, Porthmadog, Conwy, Abersoch, Criccieth, Betws-y-coed (my personal favourite) Pwllheli, Caernarfon and so on.

Beaumaris is great. A beautiful seaside town. It has a range of great little independent shops. The Janet Bell gallery is a must (both shop and gift shop). The RedBoat ice-cream parlour is award winning but you will have to queue as it's small! The chip shop 'under the arch' in the very centre of town is famous for their cones of chips (even by the locals).

Beaumaris gets very VERY busy in the summer. It's great to watch the boat racing in the regatta and take a stroll around the castle if you're into really old history (Edward 1)

It's not big enough explore itself for a few days - but it's easy to travel around the rest of Anglesey and North Wales. Conwy and Caernarfon are really nice for the day and Betws-Y-Coed has a mountain/alpine feel to it.

We visited Beaumaris for the day last year during May bank holiday weekend/half term. I’d echo what pp have said, it’s very pretty but gets very busy. We booked an early slot at the castle and it was quiet when we went in but as we came out at lunchtime, it was heaving. The castle is well worth a trip, lovely independent shops & cafes and the beach / pier is nice to walk around. It would be a great place to use as a base to explore some more of Anglesey/ North Wales.

I really like Beaumaris, but my personal preference is to stay elsewhere in Anglesey and visit for the day.

Red boat, boat race, fish and chips, pier, lovely shops all big ticks. If your sea legs allow, try a rib ride or a more placid boat trip to Puffin Island. There is wonderful nature to be seen as well.

Enjoy!

We walked around the old court house which is now a museum and there's the sound track of a case being heard from way back when.

We then walked to the prison which is now a museum. The was interesting and entertainingly atmospheric/creepy in equal measure !

I love Beaumaris!!
We go to Anglesey every year for a week and go to Beaumaris several times throughout our holiday.
Used to stay there in a B&B but he sold up and moved away 🙁
It's a lovely place, nice shops and cafes and Tredici and the Midland tapas restaurant are both excellent

Proudofeveryone · 19/07/2022 09:21

Thank you for your suggestions.
We will be only going Mon to Thurs.
Mostly based there to travel around.

avoid the Bulkeley Hotel. Absolute dump. Stayed there a few years ago and complained about dog hair in my bed. The receptionist laughed and said “they’d never had a dog leave without paying”. Are in the Bull across the street and that was lovely.

PatsArrow · 19/07/2022 09:24

Oh yes, I always forget Beaumaris Gaol. It's quite a fascinating look at a Victorian Gaol. Good to go on a hot day as it's so shady!
The platform used to hang people in still folded up on the side of the walls and everyone just walks around under it as they're so used to it.

MenaiMna · 19/07/2022 09:37

As a town it's a nice day and a quaint base for further touring. If self catering your nearest grocers are waitrose in Menai Bridge, aldi asda lidl in Llangefni, aldi asda lidl morrisons tesco in Bangor.
Red boat ice cream is good and there are branches in Caernarfon and Rhyl and a kiosk on the prom under Menai bridge. If you love castles do the triple: Unesco world heritage sites of Caernarfon & Beaumaris then Conwy castle which also a quaint lovely town, the Thomas Telford Centre is a great local museum in Menai Bridge - then walk across the bridge for the views. For art Janet Bell in Beaumaris and Oriel Ynys Môn in Llangefni & Life in full Colour in C'fon, other galleries in Conwy too.
Sandy beaches Benllech, Treaddur Bay & Rhosneigr, birdwatching in Holyhead and Conwy. Alpine scenery Betws y Coed and Beddgelert, heritage railway from cfon to Porthmadog and lovely Portmeirion. Industrial heritage - tin in Amlwch, national slate museum in llanberis and a copper mine in Beddgelert. Rib rides from Menai Bridge are awesome! You'll have a busy week! And as wrong as it sounds the locals pronounce it Boo-mare-iss (not bow mare ee as my french eye would see it). And keep an eye on ferry times from Holyhead for bridge traffic jams 20 mins later!
