Is it just "not as warm as the south of France" shit? Or like spoil your holiday shit? For context we live and normally holiday in Scotland!
Had been looking at Balearics but so expensive and dcs have said they'd be interested in a more active holiday. They struggled with the heat in Majorca.
I started to look at campsites in Brittany but the weather always gets a mention!

When are you going and what temperature do you want?
I suspect it has temperatures similar to Cornwall, maybe slightly warmer on the south side, places like Cannes.
It's a beautiful place with lots to see and do (and eat and drink).

Gubu · 12/07/2022 23:34

It was 24c here at 11pm today. It was 30c earlier today. We booked accommodation without aircon as we've never needed it here before. Won't make that mistake again! (We're irish so come here for not extreme weather)

PickAChew · 12/07/2022 23:36

Just googled britanny weather and got 22C.

MisterMist · 12/07/2022 23:43

It's going to be 35 in At Malo at the weekend but that's because we're all in the middle of a heatwave which isn't normal.
Next week it'll be low twenties which is probably more typical and perfect as far as I'm concerned.

St Malo

Chamomiltea · 12/07/2022 23:43

Campsites in Brittany are great, our favourite was les deux fontaines when the kids were young teens. Our last holiday was pre pandemic and we went to Normandy to 40 degree weather 🥵so its hard to know what the weather will do!

whenindoubtgotothelibrary · 12/07/2022 23:44

It can be lovely, but it can also be very wet indeed in my experience. Potluck - like Cornwall as a pp said.

ToooOldForThis · 13/07/2022 08:46

Oh wow thank you so much for replying! So I guess it's a case of just not guaranteed hot and dry the way the south might be?
I think we'd be OK with that...although I know if it rains for your full holiday it must be awful

We go to Brittany a couple of times a year and the weather is always lovely, rarely rainy. We went in early May and I foolishly fell asleep on the beach with no sun cream and got burnt. I much prefer it to Cornwall even though I am Cornish. No National Trust car park fees and miles and miles of gorgeous beaches with easy parking. Fantastic walks too. I find the south way too hot at this time of year but Brittany perfect. Enjoy!

ToooOldForThis · 13/07/2022 17:21

Oh @gingergiraffe you are totally selling that, sounds great!!

I’d say it’s not dissimilar weather to UK. So if you expect it to be like Scotland, you won’t be disappointed and may be pleasantly surprised.

We holidayed in Brittany a few years ago in early July, and stay in West coast of Scotland. We loved it, amazing weather, mid -high 20s (a big difference to the non summer we are getting in Scotland this year), but not so hot that us Celts couldn't cope.Amazing scenery and lovely and quiet. We stayed in Gulf of Morbihan, near Vannes(worth a visit)

Festivalpartygirl · 13/07/2022 17:44

We have had full on rain every day for a week in August………..next year we went to The Vendee, great 1st week, rain whole of the 2nd week, unpredictable - like the UK.

Arucanafeather · 13/07/2022 17:51

We love Brittany. One of my favourite areas of France. Its average temp in august is 19 degrees C I believe. So it can be cool so you need to take jumpers, etc. But it can also be 30 degrees + too. The most southern part (eg Carnac) tends to be a little warmer. St Malo is amazing but on the top coast so can be cooler. We tend to go there for a day or two then onto a different part of Brittany. Josselin (inland) is also lovely.

TheFallenMadonna · 13/07/2022 17:54

We camped in Brittany nearly every summer from 2003 to 2019, early August. I don't think we ever had a fortnight without some rain, but plenty of sunny days too. Good temperature for walking, cycling, kayaking. Sea is cold and I wore a wetsuit. Kids changed their minds year on year on that one. We stayed in lots of different places, but lovely, not crowded beaches were a feature of all of them.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 13/07/2022 17:57

I stopped going to Brittany as we got so sick of crap weather. Last time was 5 or 6 years ago, and everyone was going on about the rubbish summer France was having. It rained every day.

Been about 9 times. Lots of cloud all the time.

Purplehonesty2 · 14/07/2022 09:29

We went 3 years ago in July and it was boiling - 40 degrees at the beach 😯

Think we had one cooler day around 21/22

ToooOldForThis · 14/07/2022 10:03

Unreliable seems to be the theme!

ToooOldForThis · 14/07/2022 10:04

Or rather, unpredictable!

DeePlume · 14/07/2022 10:07

Having camped in both I'd pick Brittany over the south any day!

ToooOldForThis · 14/07/2022 12:52

Ooh that's what i like to hear @DeePlume, what sways it for you?

We have been to the vendee/charente maritime areas camping the last two summers and had glorious weather

Chocoqueen · 15/07/2022 06:04

We went early June and there was one day of rain but the weather was perfectly pleasant the rest of the time - around warm and sunny but with some cloud cover so nut blazing sun. Perfect for us but not laying by the pool/beach going red weather.

JasmineVioletRose · 15/07/2022 06:29

It's like england. So would be gorgeous this week op!

basilmint · 15/07/2022 06:44

I've been many times, although always to the Southern part of Brittany. Temperatures have ranges from 21 degrees to 37 degrees. I've had some very hot, sunny holidays and some much cooler. However I've never had a whole week of rain. We've always managed to do some beach days while there and we always went in the sea, even me who hates the cold water. It's a beautiful place and on days when the weather isn't the best there are still plenty of places to visit. I once spent a very cool, damp fortnight in the Vendée and that wasn't much fun because there isn't much there apart from beaches.
