Unvaccinated 12yo just had covid - how do I get him to France

Right, posting here in the hope someone can help. Our son recently turned 12 and we are going to France next month.

We didn't have time to get him both jabs before we went to France, so he is currently unvaccinated. (He is going for his jabs as soon as we are back).

However, he had covid two weeks ago. So I am concerned he will test positive on a pre-travel PCR.

So how can I get him to France? The govt advice is confusing and says this: Unvaccinated travellers must present a negative result of a PCR test less than 72 hours old or an antigen test less than 48 hours old before departure (departure of the first flight when the journey includes a connection), or a certificate of recovery (positive result of a PCR or antigen test carried out more than 11 days and less than four months previously. This certificate is only valid for a period of four months from the date of the examination or test).

Does this mean I should get him an antigen test now and hope it is positive - will that do?

Very grateful for any thoughts on this as surely we can't be the only ones.

Thank you

Do you have proof of the positive test he had 2 weeks ago? I think private companies can give you a recovery certificate

Or do the private antigen test less than 48 hours before departure and use the result from that

It's probably cheaper to do the LFT than pay for a recovery certificate

We had covid a frw weeks ago and track and trace said we would need a certificate to travel- something to do with a private pcr test?

Some companies will issue a recovery certificate if you have proof of the original positive test result. They charge for it

I just sent off for the NHS paper covid pass for both dc as they’ve had both jabs. As well as the covid vaccine record, dd got a second letter confirming her positive result a couple of months ago. Would that be useful?

You can only get a Covid recovery certificate if you have a PCR test record or you had an antigen test done at the time by a registered provider. In either case, recovery certificates seem to cost about £80-£90. He is unlikely to still be testing positive so you are best off doing a pre-travel antigen test which cost £10-£15. Just google fit to fly test providers.

You need to get a test. It’s £50
wr had to do this as well

Watching with interest as we're in a similar situation!

She tested positive on a flowflex test from Superdrug, but the QR code doesn't seem to go anywhere and there's nowhere to register the test. In the end I just took a photo of the test in the hope we'd find a company willing to issue a recovery certificate. She was testing negative on LFTs by the following morning, so not sure if she'd get a positive PCR result now.

LFTs are not £50
There are cheaper providers

Just do a lateral flow 24h before travelling,
It's cheaper and easier than a PCR, less risk and unless he has an active infection it shouldn't come back positive.
I had covid a few weeks before travelling to aus in April and had the same test options.
You can always do a cheapo LFT (or free if you have any NHS ones left) before you do the real one to be certain.
