Euro camp holiday without a car

I'm wondering if anyobe has done a eurocamp holiday before without a car or do you need to drive to all of them?

I'm a single Mum with 3 children between the ages of 5 and 12 and like the look of a eurocamp holiday for next summer. The only problem is that I would prefer not to drive, as I've never driven abroad before and the idea of getting used to driving on the other side of the road with 3 kids bickering in the car scares me!

Thanks 🙂

If you’re short on time, here’s a summary of the best Eurocamp sites Mumsnetters are recommending on this thread:

😎Duinrell, Netherland

😎Bella Italia, Lake Garda, Italy

😎Cambrils Park, Costa Dorada

😎Union Lido, Venice

😎Altomincio, Lake Garda

Which one are you looking at? We've been to loads of them and most of them are quite far out, but there are a few they market as 'car-free'.

Thanks, I'm not looking at any one site in particular yet, I tried to search online but was getting a bit confused as there are so many of them 😂I will have a better look for car free ones on the website then.

Have a look at Italy.
We've done Eurocamp there loads of times without a car- we have just got a taxi from the airport. The big sites have their own shops and supermarkets so no need to leave to buy food etc.

FuckingHateRats · 09/07/2022 18:11

There is definitely one in the town of Garda which would give you access to cafes and shops outside of the campsite.

The one we stayed at near Garda was called Altomincio and was amazing. Technically you could have stayed onsite the whole time and not needed anything else, once you got there. We like to get out and about though, and find the at a god send.

I was really worried about the driving too but it really was fine!

thefirstfortyeight · 09/07/2022 18:14

Altomincio is indeed lovely but I think Bella Italia would fit the bill as it's near to the lake and next to Peschiera too.

LoudSnoringDog · 09/07/2022 18:21

There’s a couple on the south east side of lake Garda where you can stroll along the lake into pecheria. Beautiful

NorfolkinExile · 09/07/2022 18:23

We have stayed on eurocamp sites in Venice and Lake Garda. Italy has very good public transport - no car required!

CactusFlowers · 09/07/2022 19:26

Cambrils, Spain and Duinrell, Netherlands are easy to do without a car.

if you find a site you like check if they do their own accommodation as well as it is sometimes nicer and cheaper.

Namechange7777 · 09/07/2022 19:36

We’ve done a few in Italy and Spain and never had a car. Lots of campsites are close enough to airport to get a transfer or some are doable by public transport.

NeedSleepNow · 09/07/2022 19:50

Thanks for all of the suggestions, I'm going to spend the evening now looking at them all!

Duinrell is FANTASTIC. Love it.

Namechange7777 · 09/07/2022 19:54

the ones around Rome are really good

jamesspaderismine · 11/07/2022 07:06

Look at the ones close to beziers airport. All around 10/20 mins taxi ride and near a town and beach

Afterfire · 11/07/2022 07:19

Ive been looking at Dunirell for similar reasons. I think it’s about 30/40 mins taxi from the airport.

KarrotKake · 11/07/2022 07:20

We've done a couple by car. Just checking: you are talking about static caravan or camping??

As othershave said, there is a filter somewhere for car free, but its not straight forward to find.

Enjoy

We've done Union Lido near Venice without a car. There was so much to do we never bothered to leave the park for a week. Also La Carabasse / Club Farret near Beziers - Vias has beach, fun fair, shops and restaurants.

AngelsWithSilverWings · 11/07/2022 09:48

Another suggestion for Duinrell. We've been twice. We did take a car but it would be easily done without. I'm sure I read that Eurostar will start a London to Amsterdam service soon too ( although probably still cheaper to fly )

Our kids loved Duinrell - we went twice when they were young and they still talk about it.

SweepTheHalls · 11/07/2022 09:52

Duinrell is a really easy drive.

FuckingHateRats · 11/07/2022 11:00

For those with a car, Duinrell is a breeze.

I'd absolutely recommend splitting your time between Beekse Bergen and Duinrell campsites - BB is prime location for Efteling, has a fantastic family park on site and has lots of fantastic daytrips.

Rotterdam Zoo is also worth a visit. We got the ferry to Rotterdam, did the zoo and then went onto BB. Stayed four nights, then packed up and went to Duinrell for another five nights. Was a fantastic holiday.

Sprogonthetyne · 11/07/2022 11:05

We did one in Spain, flew to Barcelona then got a bus, which stopped 5 minutes walk. But it was 2 adults with hand luggage sized suitcases and one toddler who went in a sling. Would be much harder with 3 kids and all the luggage.

TheABC · 11/07/2022 11:34

Watching with interest. We want to take the kids to a decent waterpark next year without the need to park a car on site.

unicornglittersprinkles · 11/07/2022 15:57

We've been to Bella Italia (Lake Garda) without a car. We walked into Peschiera and then used local buses or boats to sightsee - there's also a little land train. The supermarket on site is well stocked too.
This year we're going to Duinrell with a car but that's more because we're travelling by ferry and also going on to Efteling for the second half of our holiday. From what I've been reading, we'll have very little need for our car whilst there as public transport is so good.
