Inspiration for milestone trip August 23

Some ideas for a special holiday for next year please, I like to think ahead! It would be for myself and Dh, plus one young adult child and one late teen.
We don’t want to travel too far, about 10 hours on a plane would be our max.
We’re not super adventurous so nowhere too remote - but nowhere obvious like New York or Florida.
we like nice scenery, pretty towns and villages, shops, restaurants, walking, swimming. Nowhere too quiet though, a balance of lively/touristy but not spoilt.
Any good ideas of places you’ve enjoyed?
budget would be £5k for shorthaul and £7k for long haul.

Greek island hopping.

Vancouver Island.

You would be very hard pressed to get Vancouver Island for £7 k including flights! Depends when you want to go of course. Fares for direct flights to Vancouver are high.

I would look at Italy, South of France, Greek islands, Switzerland and possibly Iceland. Also East Coast Canada and we liked Washington and the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Iceland

Watching with interest - I am hoping to book a milestone wedding anniversary holiday next year, just me and him. So far, people have suggested Chile, Mexico and Cuba.

Swiss alps? Amalfi coast?

CoolShoeshine · 06/07/2022 19:25

Ooh some interesting ideas here. Never been to Canada and love the idea of Rocky Mountains, only thing putting me off is that most holidays to Canada are fly drive and we find driving on holiday too stressful.
Never done Iceland either so that’s a contender. I’ll have to have a Google of what it’s like there in August.
have done alps quite a bit and also amalfi but could be tempted by them again, didn’t get to sorrento or capri so they might be contenders.
greece island hopping would be popular with the kids, we are very fair though so the heat might be a bit much. Suggestions are appreciated, I’m off to do more googling!

My suggestion is Provence, if it's running again take the Eurostar to Avignon which is lovely to stay in then rent a car to tour around the hill towns plus there's Roman towns and vineyards of course. If you fancy two centre then go onto Nice for a week

Barbados

@CoolShoeshine
Iceland is usually driving too but it’s not stressful. Pretty easy! You might find tours of small groups that might work for you.

@Summerslam
Chile is expensive to reach. Direct flights are 14 hours: not even sure BA go direct to Santiago right now. Also when in Chile you need internal flights to get to the areas you will want to see. It’s also thousands of miles long and spending time in each area adds up to a fairly expensive holiday. Cuba tours are much cheaper. Mexico too. Staying in beach resorts in Cuba or Mexico are a very different proposition to touring in Chile.

August is a top time to visit Iceland.
