Does anyone still label their luggage with their flight info, destination address and mobile number? I used to do this religiously but can't find any in the shops and it got me wondering if there is any point?

No we don't
They get tags on them from the airport

GrandSlamFinalee · 04/07/2022 13:48

No, I don’t. There is that built-in tag at the back with my name, email and phone number but I haven’t updated it in ages so it probably has the wrong number on it.

I do have my BA Exec Card on one handle which has my membership number and name. That said, I doubt either of those would be very useful if the bag got lost. They all get tags at the airport which are electronically linked to your ticket and contact details.

chipsandpeas · 04/07/2022 13:50

i have a tag on my bag that just has my name, address, phone number on it

you get tags like that in the likes of primark and home bargains

Lindy2 · 04/07/2022 13:53

If flying then I don't. Everything goes on the label the airline gives you and our cases have built in address tags.

When we went on the Eutostar I wrote the destination hotel and contact details on luggage labels just incase.

You can get luggage labels from places like the Pound Shop. I use them for school residentials, scout camps etc.

I never put my home address on luggage tags. Only holiday destination. I was given this advice by a travel company some years ago. (Don't advertise your empty home).

For people who travel frequently and for short amounts of time, that advice is not helpful.

It’s a bit useless to write the name of my destination hotel if I come back in 3 days, I’d rather my luggage went straight back home. The risk of a luggage handler reading the tag, memorising the address and dropping by after his shift at the airport to break into my empty house and take the TV, is very very small.

I put surname, home town, mobile and email address.

KarrotKake · 04/07/2022 15:15

A mobile phone number is incredibly useful, if you leave your case on the baggage carousel and take mine. It meant I actually got my stuff back before leaving the airport, rather than having it taken to some other part of the country.....

greenacrylicpaint · 04/07/2022 15:17

just mobile number/surname.

lots of luggage pieces look very similar and it's easy to grab the wrong case.

HundredMilesAnHour · 04/07/2022 15:24

I have tags with my initial and surname, mobile number and email address on the outside of my case/bag and inside I have my business card kept in a very obvious place.

I don't rely on airport tags as they can get ripped off (accidentally or deliberately), although so can your own tags of course. I use my own tags more to ID my bag/case when it's on the belt, but some of it is also a throwback to when I use to commute weekly on Eurostar and bags in the luggage racks HAD to be tagged.

My tags are mainly from Aspinal (although I have a couple of other quite distinct tags that make my bag easy for me to spot).

easyday · 04/07/2022 15:26

No, but I do put my last name, to and from air ports and my phone number on a piece of paper inside. Those airport labels can be removed and I figure if the luggage goes astray there's another bit of info.

MrsMontyD · 04/07/2022 16:32

I don't usually, but I have just put tags on mine for a trip this week. I know of two people who've lost luggage the airport chaos of the last few weeks and in one case the airline label had come off and it was a major issue getting her case back.

That said I've gone for name and mobile number only, no address.

IfIhearmumagaintoday · 04/07/2022 16:34

Yes me. I actually bought some so I can identify my suitcase...easily.

Really cheap in Savers about £1
I've seen some in Superdug too

I've gone for quite distinctive tags for the same reason, my old suitcase were very easy to spot, but were damaged on our last holiday, the insurance replacement cases are good quality but a bit plain.

Firstshoes · 04/07/2022 18:01

Thanks for the replies. Maybe I'll get some just for surname and mobile number. I usually sit there for ages writing flight numbers, destination address, home address etc on them. I think I went overboard a bit 😃

Just surname & mobile no - for obvious security reasons.

A simple black strap around the case, with a single initial painted in bright nail varnish @ intervals, makes it easy to spot on the carousel & identify if American Airlines lose it yet again.

jaundicedoutlook · 23/07/2022 14:31

I’ve been told that putting exec club tags on luggage is a very good way of getting your bag last onto the conveyor belt.

I generally don’t leave any personal information on my bag but have a sticker with name and mobile on the inside in case it gets hopelessly lost. I also have some brightly coloured bits of paracord wrapped round and tied to the end of the least used (top) handle to help me spot it on the conveyor but that can’t get caught in any sorting machinery.
