Due to travel on Sunday, just found out 5 year old sons passport isn’t valid due to brexit HELP

So due to travel to France and Italy via rail from this Sunday.

Mine, my husband and daughters passport are all valid. My sons expires on 31st July and I was under the impression you can travel, until the expiry date and we are back way before then.

Do we cancel and use our insurance to claim the money back, or just risk it and go and see what happens at the border?

Btw if I didn’t make it clear, the post brexit rules are you have to have 3 months validity after you return.

I can’t imagine your insurance would cover that op? They’ll say you have a duty to check if the documents are valid. Unfortunately I don’t think this will go well 😞

You need 3 months remaining. You will likely not be able to travel.

I would be surprised if your insurance covers this!

We are prepared for insurance not covering that either, we are genuinely at a loss of what to do.

You will not be covered by insurance for this, it is your responsibility to ensure you all have valid passports.

This is why we renewed ds's passport earlier this year as his would expire shortly after we travelled

This passport rule has been all over the news for months so lots of people being caught out

You could risk it (I know someone who managed to get though on eurostar, trains seem les strict than planes)...
Buy really even without brexit you were cutting it ridiculously fine, less than a month left...

Have you been living under a rock? There has been a 6 month expiry rule for as long as I can remember.

When something similar happened to friends, one parent stayed behind with the kid who didn't have a passport, got the new passport and caught up with everyone else. Is there not the option of going to the passport office? It's Tuesday tomorrow, you have the rest of the week...

The point is, we’ve all known for months that passport needed at least 6 months left on them before the return into the UK in order to still be valid. It’s been a vital piece of into and big topic of debate. So the fact that you’ve failed (or his father has) to check the passports are going to be valid is a bit of an own goal.

Agree with others, can't see a way round this unfortunately OP. You could try an emergency appointment at the passport office.

In any case, OP you have time to get the fast track, but it will cost you, you'll have to weigh up whether it will cost you more than cancelling the holiday

Well you must have a very short memory because before Brexit we didn't need the extra time on our passports for travel in the EU.

I am so suprised at how harsh some people are on here.
