If so what did you think?

Still deliberating about where to go on holiday, this is the short list so far:
Gardini Naxos, Sicily
Cannigone, Sardinia
Nerja, Spain

Self-catering is proving difficult to come by so if you have been to any of these resorts can you recommend accommodation?

we went to Nerja on honeymoon. It was lovely but we stayed in the really good hotel right on the beach (Hotel del Europa or somehting like that) so no idea about s/c

It's a lovely town though - the caves are fantastic and we found a really gorgeous restaurant

Is the beach nice, suitable for children?

the hotel had a private beach

I'm sure the rest of the beach would have been gorgeous - there were lots of families around

We went to Taormina which isn't far from Gardina Naxos. I think Gardina Naxos is the bottom of the cliff and Taormina is a the top.
We had a lovely holiday, and would love to go back. The restaurants in Taormina are lovely.

I think we stayed in these self catering apartments

have been to Nerja a few times but not for about 10 years. I loved it at the time. Easy access even by bus to other local spots, picture postcard buildings etc. I would recommend the place but wouldn't have a clue about accomodation, was in my backpacking days so cheap cheerful and whatever was free.

Those apts in Taormina look lovely. Would you recommend for children?

I have been to Gardini Naxos and to Nerja, both pre children though so my recommendations are not particularly child related.

Gardini Naxos was lovely, there were lots of nice restaurants and ice cream shops and the beach was clean and for a bit of culture you could go up and view the roman remains at Taormina. Those appartments look gorgeous.

Nerja was slightly more mass touristy than we had thought it would be, the beach at Nerja itself isn't huge but think there are beaches for the private hotels, but if you have a car there are some lovely beaches within a 15 minute drive.

I think I would prefer Gardini Naxos however I can't really find the type of accommodation we are looking for - self-catering and child friendly I think Nerja might have more possibilities.

just to throw another one into the pot - what about Zante?

Ooh don't know anything about Zante.

cardy · 21/01/2008 14:10

it is third choice really. If only I could find the right accommodation in gardini naxos!

We have just booked to go to Nerja,we wanted somewhere with easy access to Ronda,Granada ect,but not too touristy.A mum at school spent all her childhood holidays there & told me that it was lovely. We have booked 2 weeks self catering at the Roses De Nerja apartments in June & it has cost £1312 for the 4 of us.[The dd's will be 3 & 4 when we go if that helps).

briffa · 23/01/2008 08:52

Which tour operator george? I have been to andulcia before and visited Rhonda, Granada it is lovely but wanted a base with the seaside location that isn't too touristy.

FuriousGeorge · 23/01/2008 21:05

It is COSMOS I think briffa.I'd searched on line & found nothing, then popped into CO-OP travel & they found it for me.They were offering free travel insurance or 2 weeks free car parking at the airport instead.I tried to beat it on line but couldn't,so booked it with the CO-OP.

The price doesn't include transfers, but the price of them was £130.A hire car for 2 weeks is only £200,so we are better off hiring a car than paying for transfers.A car also gives us more flexibility for travelling to Ronda ect anyway.
