Flights to Orlando

Can anyone tell me if £495 (before the extras!) is a good return price for flights to Orlando from Manchester in early July 23?

Thanks!

What are the extras?
Which airline, direct?
£500 is a reasonable economy return flight price and with the weak £ and rising fuel costs I don't think cheap flights are going to be available

Whiterose23 · 22/06/2022 18:03

I’d say that’s reasonable. We have paid £3200 for BA flights to MCO (inclusive of baggage/food) for this August for 2adults and 2 children.

pipping · 22/06/2022 18:12

Oh it says that includes baggage but doesn’t actually say how much baggage it is!

By extras I mean all the stuff you end up having to add on like baggage and choosing a seat etc. The £495 is the Skyscanner price.

It’s Aer Lingus - anyone know if they’re any good?

I would say so. Aer Lingus are doing direct from Manchester to Orlando now aren't they. And JFK too I think. Reviews I've heard seem broadly positive.

I think it seems like a good price for super peak season. Virgin also do the route and I'd be comparing what you can get with them, almost certainly a fair bit more.

pipping · 22/06/2022 18:14

It’s actually coming up at £460 each now I’ve specified 2a 2c

OP posts:
pipping · 22/06/2022 18:15

Thanks I’ll check Virgin too then just for comparison!

I’d say it is at the moment. I can only travel in school holidays and in before times I’d be happy with £500 pp with one leg indirect or £600 both direct. Like everything it’s going to be more expensive now.

SiobhanSharpe · 22/06/2022 18:20

I'd just check the luggage allowance but for Orlando you only really need shorts, trainers/sandals , t-shirts and swimwear. And you can get all that there quite cheaply anyway.
(We bought towels for the waterparks very cheaply too. Not actually at the waterparks, at one of the outlet/discount stores. Left them behind)
I took dresses and never wore them.

pipping · 22/06/2022 18:26

It looks like if we did need extra baggage (it doesn’t make it clear what’s included) it would be about £160 each way for 2 x 30kg. I have no idea if that would be enough though! It means nothing to me.

Are they? Goes off to find out - could be useful to us, as the only options previously were Virgin and Tui.

pipping · 22/06/2022 18:27

That’s a good point @SiobhanSharpe probably makes more sense to buy some of that kind of stuff there!

Virgin are almost double!!

Just checked direct instead of via Skyscanner and this price with the baggage seems like a winner! We haven’t been before so I am ‘flying’ blind here.

Looks like a good deal to me, book direct though not via Sky Scanner.

LimesandClementines · 22/06/2022 18:38

Yes that seems reasonable and I guessed from the price it would be Aer Lingus. We flew to NY with them last month and couldn't fault them, I would book direct with them rather than Skyscanner though. We got 23kg of baggage as standard so I would double check that.

LimesandClementines · 22/06/2022 18:39

Sorry x-posted with your last post!

Figmentofimagination · 22/06/2022 18:46

I flew with aer lingus in Feb, Manchester-Dublin-Orlando on the way out and Orlando-Manchester on the return.
We used the smart option. Got 10kg carry on each and 23kg checked baggage included in the price. I then added 1 extra 25kg bag for coming home (bag inside a bag going out) and paid for that as extra.
Aer lingus are good for a standard airline. Staff are lovely, food is ok, service is great, movie and tv options were good and varied. I would definitely recommend and would fly with them again.

Figmentofimagination · 22/06/2022 18:47

Just remember to contact them over the phone if you want Children's meals for the flights.
And you can use The Verifly app to make checking in easier.

Onthegrid · 22/06/2022 18:48

23kg of baggage per person for 2A and 2C is more than enough, I’ve done 3 weeks longhaul no washing machine with a range of climates on this so packing my shorts and t-shirts for a couple of weeks in Orlando would be easy

motogirl · 22/06/2022 18:50

Are you sure, they don't release the flights until a year ahead normally!

motogirl · 22/06/2022 18:52

Those are for 2022, flights haven't been released yet. Just checked

Figmentofimagination · 22/06/2022 18:54

We had 23kg each for 2A 1C (4year old), and it was plenty, even when we had to pack warmer clothes as Feb weather varies from 7'c one day to 28'c the next.
As I said upthread we did pay for an extra 25kg bag for coming home, we packed a foldable duffel bag into 1 of our 23kg suitcases, and used it as extra baggage coming home for our purchases (clothes, souvenirs etc).
One thing to consider is that aer lingus bag dimensions are actually slightly smaller than virgin, so make sure your suitcases meet the dimensions. Our carry on bags didn't but luckily they didn't measure them, they only weighed them.

pipping · 22/06/2022 18:59

Oh I’m an idiot! Thank goodness I didn’t book. Will need to wait a couple of weeks and see the prices for next year.

Good to hear they’re ok to fly with. Tbh I’d rather suffer a less than ideal flight to save a bit of money!

Parks are really busy July and early august because US schools are off - is there another time you can go?

pipping · 22/06/2022 19:03

Easter I suppose? Would that be more suitable?
