Ryanair strikes…

We are meant to be flying back home (from Ibiza) on one of the confirmed strike days in Spain (2 July). What do I do at this point? Ideally I try to change that flight to another company, I guess, but it might mean £££! Should I wait and see?

Can't answer your question for you, but would point there's still time for negotiation.

It's possibly also fair to point out that in the past Ryanair have been reasonably (but not always) successful at continuing to run services into/out of airports effected by industrial action by locally based staff.

If cancelling right now means you lose money I personally would be inclined to not change anything until I'd heard something from Ryanair.

Do you have travel insurance?

Obviously I don’t know your financial situation

vit after having had the most wonderful foreign holiday last month - I would absolutely pay for an alternative flight

I would absolutely pay for an alternative flight...

With? It's obviously the OPs call but in fairness there's all sorts of minor and not minor grumbles circulating in the industry ATM..

Anyhow I offer this:

www.rte.ie/news/business/2022/0613/1304530-ryanairs-spanish-cabin-staff-to-strike-for-six-days/

Given it's source it might be painting a slightly rose tinted glasses version of things but historically, love them or hate them, Ryanair management have been very clever at continuing to operate flights around strikes called by elements of their workforce operating out of a small number of bases.

I think PP meant with which alternative airline as they all seem to be having issues at the moment.

That's how I read it anyway

Hubby told me this morning its one of the smaller unions based abroad. If its a UK crew then you'll be fine. So for example if the plane comes from the UK and will be landing in the UK it will be a UK crew so it won't affect you.

Ah I see
but if you book an alternative then much more likely one will come through!

Firstly my crystal ball is no better than anybody else's, but given this possible IA was only announced yesterday(?) I reckon it's a bit early to be junking the FR tickets on the basis that presumably at this stage we don't know if Ryanair would offer a refund because of IA and I'd speculate/guess if you self cancel travel insurance won't pay out (?? thoughts??)

Firstly there might still be time for a negotiated settlement with the union(s) involved.

It's possible Ryanair might try to keep flights running by using crews from elsewhere in the network.

It's possible Ryanair might try to keep flights running by wet leasing in cover from suitable operators - that's what other airlines have done during IA👿, though I gather wet lease capacity is in short supply ATM...

There might be other possibilities.

Given the above I'm not sure I'd be rushing off right now, today, in the absence of any info from Ryanair to cancel and rebook but I guess a lot comes down to the level of risk the OP can accept and the OPs their financial and work situation.

Thanks all for the insight. Alternative flights could be as cheap at £136 for all of us so I’m tempted if that’s all it takes for the ‘insurance’…
