Hi everyone,

Travelling to Spain at the end of July, with my partner & 2 children (8 month old & 20 month old).

What are some essentials to take on the plane for them to make the journey as stress free as possible for us? First time travelling abroad with them so slightly nervous. This is what I have so far:

Nappies
Wipes
Calpol
2/3 bottles for the baby
Snacks for my older child
Spare change of clothes for both of them incase of any accidents

Any ideas/advice would be much appreciated. Thank you!

We’ve just done a plane trip with out two year old for the first time and you won’t need much more than you’ve already set out. Perhaps a new toy and some sticker books for your older child. We found those passed at least an hour. Also their favourite teddy comes in handy to give them on take off or if they get tired. Have fun, it won’t be as stressful as you think!

Thank you! It’s a night flight (8:15pm) & only a 2h 30m duration so hopefully they sleep through!

Change of clothes for you as well. (DS1 managed to be hugely sick all over me on takeoff when he was 18 months old...)

All the snacks you can manage and a packed lunch for you all makes life so much easier. Small toys for keeping occupied and a drink to sip as you take off

Nappy bags and a changing mat. Yes, most aircraft do have changing facilities but from experience the best way is to lay baby on your lap. However, you’ll have to traipse to the toilet to dispose of the nappy or hand it do the flight attendant. Either way, it needs to be well bagged up!
If it’s a particularly offensive nappy, then definitely give it to the attendant because aeroplane toilets are small and easily overwhelmed by smells! They can put it in the plane’s rear rubbish lockers.
Take a baby carrier if possible.
Take any comforters and/or pacifiers your dc have. Always pack your hand luggage knowing that there’s a very small chance that your hold luggage might get lost or delayed, and you don’t want to lose an irreplaceable soft toy or blanket!

Laps or their own seats? (Esp the 20 month old?)

Something to suck when plane takes off
Sick bags
Buy drinks in departure lounge

Toddler headphones and download favourite cartoon onto a tablet.

And practice playing airports, so toddler knows what to do at security etc (going through the x Ray machine)

Spare set of clothes for you - leggings and a vest top or similar. I once had the joy of a mid air nappy explosion while DS was on my knee. I was very glad I’d packed a change of clothing.

If you're planning on bringing Calpol with you to the airport, it will need to be the small sachets

If it's a bottle, it will need to be prescribed by a GP, or bought after customs.

I’d take an iPad and headphones for the older one OP. Fingers crossed they will sleep but mine never would straight away, she’d usually relax, watch something and be asleep within about 30 minutes.

20 month old is having his own seat & the 8 month old on my partners lap. We all wanted to sit together so had to purchase a separate seat for my oldest
