Will the USA change their covid testing rules?
SunnyNights · 06/06/2022 17:06
Anyone else a bit nervous about travelling to the states during the summer?
We have the tests and a zoom observation session booked but desperately hoping the policy is changed so I can relax.
SunnyNights · 06/06/2022 17:31
That sounds hopeful. I keep googling the latest international news on this and it does seem as though there is some pressure on Biden to change the rules...
Would be such a relief if it does change, don't even care about losing the testing money at this stage!

I am really hoping so too. It would definitely take the pressure off. I wonder if they will change the rule for vaccinated travellers first?
I would imagine so. I think unvaccinated travellers may have a while to wait, but the testing rules may be relaxed for vaccinated travellers imminently. When the mask mandate changed for US flights in April Biden objected but this was overturned by a federal judge. I feel it might go that way again. I've got a group of ten going in August and have organised the lot, so I'd rather not add video testing to the something else I need to organise list.

We have the video slots booked, we go at the end of July, but not sure my nerves can take knowing only the day before that we are actually able to fly.
I know, I'm dreading it! Don't feel like I can relax until its done!

I get it op - we had to test to go on a cruise recently, we were already on our way before the 24 hour window opened so tested in the hotel (after dinner of course) I was so nervous it would be positive, even though I took a nhs one we still had before leaving

Bloomin’ well hope so. Feels like they are very behind the rest of the world lifting rules. It’s nerve wracking testing to go on your hols and the effort of cancelling / rescheduling is too much. We’re not going again until November but I am hoping for lifting long before then.
SunnyNights · 06/06/2022 18:46
So glad it was all fine motogirl, must have been nerve wracking!
Another source of travel stress is that my husband has only five months left on his passport. It's fine as the UK has an agreement with the USA so the full six months isn't needed but it's still a worry. Hopefully Virgin Atlantic will know the rules and not mess about when we check in
BritWifeInUSA · 07/06/2022 09:52
We flew back home on Sunday. Had the tests done Saturday and it was nerve-wracking to wait for an email to say whether we would be allowed back into our own country or not.
It needs to be lifted immediately. It’s ridiculous. It doesn’t apply to land and sea arrivals, only air arrivals. So it makes no sense at all. People coming in by cruise ship are exempt but those coming in by plane aren’t. People here are getting around it by flying into Canada and then going by land across the border.

I’m so glad I saw this thread!! Dd1 is going to the US with college at the beginning of July. At the lat meeting we were told that testing requirements would likely be scrapped by then. So I didn’t really give it any more thought.
saw this and panicked. Dd very helpfully forgot to tell me about the email they had two weeks ago telling they would need to book tests! And didn’t think to book one herself!
anyway all booked now for the day before she flies. More stress and money I didn’t need!
Cameleongirl · 09/06/2022 22:22
I flew back in May and did Express Test in Terminal 5. It was quick and easy, I’d definitely recommend them.
But I was coming back to work so I wouldn’t have been devastated if I’d tested positive. 🤣. Like others, I think the requirement will be lifted soon, although we’ve had a surge, but as schools break up in June here, that will hopefully die down with everyone outdoors more.

It’s being lifted at midnight this Sunday! 🎉
