Will it be busy? Or really only kicks off during Holy Week itself?

many thanks

It doesn't really kick off until Palm Sunday although the week before lots of locals visit the churches and the local government start setting up the chairs where people watch the processions from so it can start to get a bit difficult to move around in the very city centre. There's a great atmosphere in the city with the anticipation of it all and accommodation should be a lot cheaper than during Holy Week itself.

Thanks!

ideally would you go in Feb
or
week before Holy Week?

like the idea of warmer weather but not at all interested in holy week

The weather can be very unpredictable at that time of year. The last week of March you could get glorious sunshine all week or it could pour with rain. It should be a bit warmer than February although it can be lovely then too. Seville is famous for its Springtime but I imagine you could get a much better deal on accommodation in February than just before Holy Week. If you can time your trip with when the orange blossom is out the city smells lovely, usually towards the end of February and beginning of March.

You’re brliant

it would be 10-13 Feb or 24-27 March (holly week 2-9 April)when would you go?

I’ve been to Seville both the week before Holy Week and during Holy Week. The week before is absolutely great time to visit with the benefit of better weather. It did not seem any busier than usual but was quite interesting to see the locals buying their outfits for the Holy Week!

notasgreenasiamcabbagelooking · 06/06/2022 09:09

Yes, I'd probably go for the later date too as the weather is likely to be better, although as I said before, it's not guaranteed to be sunny. It famously almost always rains in Holy Week at some point. There should be a great buzz in the city then too.

But aside from locals buying outfits, any other difference? Busier? Things closed? Being set up?

Really not interested In buzz as single parent as simply interested in 3 days of wandering around, seeing things

with this in mind, still the week before Holy Week?

Everything will be open but the tourist attractions and restaurants are likely to be busier at the end of March than in February.

famagusta · 06/06/2022 12:11

Really helpful

cant shake worry though that week before Holy Week will be busier than normal and maybe not the “normal” Seville?!

As an aside, what area would you say best to book accom in?

i so appreciate the advice

OP posts:
PennySas · 06/06/2022 13:37

it definitely didn’t seem busier the week before. In terms of setting up, they seemed to start that a couple of days before and they did close the cathedral at that point. Everything else was open as usual and we had no issues visiting attractions or eating out.

notasgreenasiamcabbagelooking · 06/06/2022 13:47

It's always pretty busy nowadays, except for full on summer. Anywhere in the centre would be fine to stay. Personally I'd avoid Santa Cruz as it's the most touristy, and maybe look towards the Setas/Calle Feria/Alameda area, or close to the Bellas Artes museum. Across the river in Triana is nice too, and it's all very walkable.

famagusta · 06/06/2022 16:53

You are both brilliant

thank you

more busy a few days before Holy Week than other times? Have you been then?

What temperatures are you looking for? I've been to Sevilla several times in February and it's always warm - 20-25 degrees during the day which for me, is more than enough in winter. Days are shorter but the city is much quieter and I like it that way. End of March can be a lot more unpredictable in terms of rain - more than February.
