Quiet music-free hotel, Italy or Spain

Family from New Zealand coming to Europe next summer. They will start in the UK and stay with family and friends, then go touring in Europe (car/ camping) for a couple of months. They want to end with a week's holiday in a hotel for a family get together before heading home. This is likely to be the last time some of us see each other IRL so it's a bit special.

They have specifically asked for a quiet hotel. Apparently when they last came to Europe 20+ years ago they were driven nuts by music being played by pools and bars and in the corridors from morning to night and they don't want that. Suits me and several of the other rellies who'll be going.

Preferences are for somewhere on the coast, with views and balconies overlooking the views. Lift for the oldies. Nice big village or town: a few bars and restaurants to go out to. City or historic/ cultural sites for a couple of day trips. Decent food. Possibility of walks or sailing. Calm vibe, nice bar and pool. We will need 12-16 rooms. Think we need a fairly large hotel so that there is the chance of escaping each other from time to time. 4*+ budget but not super-luxurious.

Not sure where to start. Any suggestions?

After posting here I started googling 'quiet hotels' and the first one that came up was in Benidorm (but the quieter part of Benidorm, apparently) and boasts about playing relaxing music throughout the hotel...

What about Italian lakes ? Does it have to be coast?

leas chance of music vibes at the Lakes. Can also do sailing, great towns, Verona or Venice for a day trip, amazing food etc.

I've not had a hotel in either Spain or Italy with loud music and nightlife attached since me and my cousin went to Salou in 1984.
I don't think many hotels in Italy do the evening entertainment thing unless they're owned by the package tour companies, and even then not always.
I went to Menorca with Tui 4 years ago and there was a bit of a group playing round the pool till about 10.30.
I was in Rome and Florence last year and there was no music.

Italy agriturismi tend to be good for quiet holidays - BUT these will be inland. I stayed at one with annoying pool music, but it was really noticeable because it seemed to jar with the surroundings. We asked them to turn it off and they did. All the others I’ve stayed at have been music-free.

The Italian lakes might be a convenient solution. Thank you. I had a very wet few days at Lake Maggiore years ago, so I hadn't even considered it. An agriturismo isn't going to be suitable, I don't think. Thank you for the suggestions.

First choice all inclusive resort in Greece had no music.

For something a little different you could consider a stay in a Parador - state run, good quality hotels in Spain that are often in converted historic buildings such as old monasteries and castles.

calmlakes · 31/05/2022 15:14

If you hired a villa you could have as much or little music as you wanted.

Abbazia Collemedio in Umbria is stunning and classy. Great food and beautiful surroundings. You'd need a car. Lots of lovely towns and cities to explore in the area.

MarmiteCoriander · 31/05/2022 15:21

Possibly Sorento? Stunning views.

Could you hire several Air BnB's in the same town and meet for meals- or did you just want a hotel? Or a hotel with cabins might do? Friends just returned from Turkey, where there accomodation was in cabins in what looked like a forest. they then walked past the pain building and there were pools and the sea. Would Turkey be an option?

Don't want to be catering for so many people for a week, even if it's just breakfasts. And in a hotel everyone has a room and their own bathroom and can get away if they need to. We'd need two or more villas and several cars so different groups could come and go.

Quite like the idea of one of the grander hotels on Lake Garda. Will have to see if we can afford them. Terraces to sit out, bars and restaurants easy walking distance, boat trips, possibility of private bus/ coach trip to Verona, Venice etc. I saw an article about Treviso not very long ago and wondered about going there.

Sorrento's a bit overdeveloped and touristy these days, though perhaps in September it would be different. Certainly good day trips.

Yes we stayed in Garda, was fab. Easy to hire a car and get about - we went to Verona for the day. Also headed out to Montebaldo and went up in the cable car, got a boat across the lake to Salo, went to Sirmione etc. Loads to do there. We stayed at the Hotel Poiano which wasn’t directly on the lake but was nice - suited us as sports available there for children. Wasn’t noisy there, we did B & B as so many nice places to eat out in Garda.

Hotels without many facilities are far less likely to have music - look for places that are not all inclusive. Most people expect music

MissAmbrosia · 31/05/2022 22:01

www.hlapalma.it/en/ I love this place. No loud music. Beautiful views.

MissAmbrosia · 31/05/2022 22:04

2 pools. Quiet bars. Boat trips to the islands/botanical gardens. Lots of places to eat in town - 10 mins walk. Easy to get to Milan/airport. Staff fall over themselves to be lovely. Not cheap :)

MissAmbrosia · 31/05/2022 22:16

www.hotel-juana.com/en/ Or here. Definitely expensive though.

Looks lovely, but apparently it's fully-booked for the first half of September 2023!

It will just be that the website is not open for bookings yet. I would call them given the number of rooms you need.

Boglins · 31/05/2022 22:36

Santa Susanna in Spain might fit the bill, it seems to cater to an older crowd so less noisy and there is a train station to get about, we went to Barcelona and it didn't take too long from what I remember.

Pluvia · 01/06/2022 09:58

Thank you again, everyone, for your continued suggestions. I'm making a list and will spend the weekend researching more thoroughly. Thanks for the heads-up on the hotel booking situation. I'd searched for 10 rooms and assumed it was a capacity problem. I'll contact them and see what they can offer. Might one expect a small discount for a group booking like this, do you think?

The party will range in age from low 30s up to late 70s. Some of the older ones will probably be happy just sitting talking and eating and drinking for most of the week, but we'll need somewhere which offers an option for the younger and more active members of the group to get out and about and have some fun.

This is perfect

Its in sitges, just south of barcelona easy jorney from barcelona airport (direct bus from outside the airport) beautiful views nice quiet hotel and sitges itself is beautiful and classy

nevergoingback · 01/06/2022 11:37

Sitges also has something for every age group

SFisnotsimple · 02/06/2022 08:26

I’d definitely agree with contacting the hotels direct by email or phone. Many have group booking numbers or if not just talk to reservations.
