Is an hour enough connection time for Heathrow Terminal 5? Does anyone have any experience?

Would love to go to Cairo with DH next year, we’d be flying from Dublin and would need to connect at Heathrow, but I can see it’s a 1hr connection time with British Airways. Both flights would be terminal 5. Would you chance it? The other option is Lufthansa and connect in Germany for about 2 hours but it would mean we’d be arriving two hours later, so don’t really want to miss much of the first night! Does anyone have any experience with connecting at Heathrow and BA in general? Thanks!

If the airline is offering it as one ticket on its website then it should be ok.

Last week I had a transit flight via Dusseldorf and the transit route was to exit the airport then re enter. No way was one hour enough however the shortest transit when I booked was 1 hour 40 which was about right for Dusseldorf.

Like @CeeceeBloomingdale said, 1h it’s within the legal limit (just about) but tight. You might make it, you might not. If you’re not too bothered about it then definitely book it.

It’s possible to transfer in less than 1h, even at busy airports. I’ve caught connecting flights with less than 40 min margin several times at Madrid - from T4 to T4S even - but you do have to run.

Sometimes everything is on time and you get adjacent gates and it’s literally 10 minutes. Other times it takes 3 hours and your bags don’t even make it. It can be a bit of a lottery.

My travel agent assures me it’s 10 mins and an hour is plenty. This assumes you fly in and out of T5

The travel agent is a liar. No way is a 10 min connection possible at T5.

You could quite easily be waiting 20 mins for a stand or a bus before even sitting foot in T5.

1 hour is the minimum connection time at T5. And with the current issues, 1 hour is pushing it. All it takes is a delayed arrival or delay getting to the stand, and all bets are off. BA won't sell tickets with a connection of less than 1 hour.

Never been on a bus in T5 but it’s a long way from some departure gates to others. Even as transit passengers. The wait for a stand can be lengthy.

There's an increase in use of remote stands (T5D) due to the lack of capacity at T5 with AA and QR also using it (instead of their usual T4). QR move back to T4 on 14 June but there's no indication if/when AA will move back. Prior to this, T5 was already at capacity anyway which is why BA use T3 for some flights.

Buses go from some of the A gates so getting an A gate for boarding isn't always good news.

This and lack of ground crew is why the wait for stands has increased so much.
