Electric car Charging Landal Rabbit Hill Holland

Lou882001 · 29/05/2022 18:29

Hi, we are travelling via DFDS Newcastle to Amsterdam. We plan on taking our newly purchased electric car & driving on to Landal Hill where we are staying but having contacted the site we haven’t managed to understand how their electric car charging points work. Their only reply was that we need a card but no other info on how/where to get this. I wondered if anyone who has stayed at a Landal site abroad could help advise as I’m having nightmares of being stranded with a 3 year old & 7 month old?! Any other hints and tips most welcome for the ferry or holidaying in Holland with little ones. Thank you!

I would take a look at the Tesla superchargers. If you don't have a Tesla, you need to look for the ones that are open to non-Tesla cars - there seem to be a fair few on your route. They should be reliable/plentiful and you could maybe find one in the UK to try out before you go. You need the app and an account. https://www.tesla.com/en_gb/findus?v=2&bounds=53.225289609154686%2C7.555259054687515%2C51.104744326712286%2C4.270346945312515&zoom=9&filters=party

Thanks for the reply. Funny you should mention Tesla but we actually have one on order and it should have been here well before the planned holiday but is now due to arrive three days after we get home. My husband just leased a Nissan Leaf for his work commute a couple of days a week so we didn’t think the shorter range would be any issue…until we suddenly needed to take it abroad loaded up with all the heavy gear that comes with babies and toddlers. As we’ve only had it a couple of weeks and it hasn’t had the kids in yet I fear the overloaded boot and roof box will drain the battery. Ideally wanted to charge it overnight at the site to avoid lengthy stationary charging with the kids but I will take a look into your recommendation and thank you for taking the time to reply

Ah, have you ordered a model Y? I think production has been affected by recent Covid lockdowns in Shanghai. Model Y Facebook group is full of posts with people having their delivery dates changed. The Y looks great. I have a model 3 and I love it!

Does the Leaf have CCS charge port?

Hello, I’ve never posted before, but I’m staying in a nearby Landal with a Nissan Leaf so I thought I should :-)

firstly we’ve had our leaf for 3 years and it has been absolutely brilliant. No problems at all and the charging has been fine everywhere we’ve been. For the Netherlands, you need to order a card online. I’m not sure where though because we didn’t bother. We charged in Sunderland and that got us all the way here, no problem. When we asked about the chargers they said we could charge from the bungalow we’re staying in so we’ve just done that.

we’re also here with a baby and a toddler and we are all loving it. Enjoy!

thanks for the reply JennyWreny. Yes we ordered a Model Y, mainly for the huge boot for holidays. Looks like it’s on its way so the delay hasn’t been as bad as some friends of mine that have been waiting and extra 6 months and counting for their Hyundai electric. Just typical that it arrives days after we get back. pleased you’re happy with your Tesla, hope we are too.

Yes I believe the leaf comes with a CCS…..is it very obvious that we know very little about electric cars even though we will soon have two 🤣

Hi Phunny, it’s my first time posting too. Thanks so much for the reply! You’ve put my mind at rest that you’re managing ok. So you’re just plugging in the slow charger from the lodge? Wonder if we can do that too.

Can I ask which Landal you’re at? Would you recommend? First holiday of this type for us but hoping if the ferry is a success we could be set for a few years of holidays without having to fly and exploring the other sites. Any tips Most welcome on how you’ve found it with a baby/toddler. Hope you’re all having an amazing time x

Hello

We are staying at Migglenberg so it’s not too far away. It’s right in the forest and we’ve hired bikes so we’re enjoying exploring. The pool is great, not as fancy as centre parcs but more than enough for us. Yes we’ve just plugged in our charger on an adapter and stuck it out of the window. It’s slow but it works fine. It might be worth getting one of those cards though, it looks like they are used at all public chargers. Especially if you’re planning to do this more than once.

Are you staying in one of the kids bungalows? It has loads of toys and stuff. And there are loads of activities for the kids (crafts, baking, feeding animals) mostly free. We’ve hired a pushchair which has made life much easier.

The ferry was really easy. Ask at reception for rails to help the kids stay in their beds. You’re not allowed to put a cot up due to space / health and safety. The ferry has a little soft play bit which kept the kids entertained in the morning.

When are you going? If you remember, please let me know what you think. We might book the rabbit one for next year :-)

Lou882001 · 01/06/2022 19:45

Ahh wow, I debated between the one you’re staying at and Rabbit Hill but by the time we could book (we were stuck in the passport backlog saga) only Rabbit Hill had availability but unfortunately not for a kids lodge, yours sounds great! Will definitely report back for you on how it goes as really appreciate that you’ve offered your help to me while on holiday! Sounds like we need a kids lodge next time around.

We are hoping this will be the first of many ferry/Landal hols as seems in theory much less stressful than flying and hotels but I guess we shall see. So pleased to hear you’re enjoying it, I feel reassured. I looked at CP but it was a lot more expensive and the reviews were very mixed.

Thanks for the tip re ferry. I actually asked them how it works with the baby when we booked and they suggested he sleep in his car seat overnight?!?! I’ve bought a pop up koodi travel cot and hoping that this will be secure enough for him on the bed with a bed rail on the side as he’s only just 8 months. We’ve managed to book a commodore cabin for the way back so can use a proper travel cot but they didn’t have any on the way out. Ended up costing more for the ferry than the lodge!

If you happen to find out any info re where we could order a charging card from that would be great. Hope you’ve had a lovely day x

Ps have you had any issues with midges? X

OP posts:
Phunny · 02/06/2022 05:23

no midges here that we’ve noticed! Just rabbits everywhere :-) also red squirrels, deer and lots of lovely birds.

They need some baby rooms on the ferry! I shared with my baby in the end, we don’t usually co sleep but it was fine.

have you got the Landal app yet? You need it to get in to your lodge, but it’s also really handy to see what’s on and book things. You can only book 3 days ahead so no pressure to get on it now :-)
